I’ve replaced the battery on my 2002 (no ABS) R1150gs. Since then the fuel pump has been running really loudly. I could easily hear it coming home last night at 130kmh. Because of the noise I lifted the tank again to check that nothing was jammed/pinched etc. and everything appears to be ok.
Is this a sign that the pump is about to pack up? It’s the first time this has happened since I bought the bike 4 years ago with 18 000 km on the clock (38 000 now). All the fuel lines were replaced last year after fuel began leaking intermittently from an unidentifiable source.
I don’t have any other ideas as to what could be causing the pump to run at full pelt. I presume that disturbing the sludge at the bottom of the tank could be a factor. I’m hoping to be doing a trip to England and Scotland in July and August (tbc after the weekend) and obviously I’d prefer to sort it out before I set off so any suggestions wouuld be very welcome
