So you can't start the bike on the sidestand?
How long do you have to wait before you can "rev" (i.e. move off) the bike after you started?
The engine totaly die. So I can not start the engine.
I push the GS down to the high way.

Getting back to the original problem, how much do the parts cost to repair such damage? Labour would be my own if needed (well out of warranty now).
Piston, Barrel, Head casting, Valves, gaskets etc. Not cheap I guess ??

new engine, surely?
isn't a basic engine circa £4K?
it might be here but it'll be a shed load more in Taiwan, European bikes are almost double the price of here
Is there a BM dealer in Taichung now Kevin? I spotted an R1200 on Highway 1 on the section above 74 near the HSR station a few weeks ago, first one I'd seen in Taichung thought there might be a dealer somewhere in town.
I do about 4 or 5 trips a year so know Taichung pretty well but can't find anywhere to rent a bikeWould like to get out up to Sun Moon Lake and the mountain roads if i could.
classic sign of over revving ( wrong gear change perhaps )result is dropped valve
Dose the GS have a rev limiter?
Dose the GS have a rev limiter?
Yup.
Go out. Hit it. It won't break. It's easy enough in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and on a good day, higher. If nothing else you will find out what it is.
Albeit the bike will be past peak power when you do.
All you will feel / hear is a stutter as the bike cuts the ignition to avoid you over-reving any further. It may feel like you are going backwards, but you ain't. You will be able to see the tacho needle fall back, rise, fall back as the limiter cuts in and out.

You ain't gonna break it in normal riding, but don't keep doing it repeatedly - just for the sake of it - or something may eventually let go.
