R1200GSA 2009 FInal drive Noise..??

James are you saying that the big bearing was free moving and not jamming??

To be honest IF there is NOT huge play between the bearing fitting to the axle shaft ????

Perhaps I'd be willing to try a New bearing and loctite "bearing fit" just to stop it creeping outwards could be a fairly quick option?? and allow you to move the bike to a more organised place where you could organise to have a replacement shipped and fitted??

As I said earlier I think Ravenbyrne has one

"If anyone interested I've got a 2008 GS/A final drive for sale.

Gear ratio is 32/11

Had it rebuilt in September by a BMW mechanic and while that was been done I found a replacement drive on ebay.

Looking for €400.00 or £325.00 GBP post would be expensive to the UK but I could investigate that if there's any interest.

It cost me €350.00 to have it rebuilt and I still have the receipt."

Not anymore............ but thanks for the plug Jay:thumb

The best of luck to you getting this problem sorted! Looks like you`ve got a good workshop to sort it :thumb2

Let us know if you want help locating a drive. I'm sure someone will have something to suit lurking about:thumb

I have a spare final drive stripped down for bearing replacement. If you want to replace just the crown wheel you are welcome to mine; replace it when you can. You will likely need some shims to set the correct clearance between the crown and pinion; maybe the rebuild missed that, overloading the bearing when it was all tightened up?
Anyone got any bright ideas on how to get the parts out there?

Get the owner of the bike to PM you his credit card number and then FED-EX the kit to the nearest town with a post office with a pick up service, that way your not out of pocket...

Now If you call Fed-Ex up and give them this posts thread so that they know that everythings above board and that there's a guy in real trouble, then you WILL get a discount of about 25-50% depending on how nice they feel and if WE as a community spread the word about their great shipping service and recount the story of how this guys trip was saved by the really nice people at Fed-Ex...

Simples...

i dont think you can buy the crown wheel on its own can you?wouldnt it be better to reassemble the fd in the uk and send it as a complete assy, then at least the chap can either replace it for you or pay you for it.

I concur, the whole assembly could be put toghther using the correct tool,s in a clean enviroment and all seal,s,would be replaced on reassembly.making it as good as new......

For the extra delivery cost, wouldn't it be better to build up the FD and ship the whole lot over.
