wait 'til you've seen a HPN'd HP2 :thumb

I think the HP2 is more or less an HPN bike anyway. AFAIK the frame is taken from the R900RR and modified to fit the 1200 lump. HPN are also doing a large 28L tank for the bike - out in Feb IIRC. 1200 HPN with BMW backing for cheaper than a 2V HPN = a bargain. Kind of

Mate's ?

You have mate's Aki, ya just never call them! new 1150 in the garage, ps took mates GXR1000 for a spin today, bloody quick, 0 to 150mph in 11 secs!!!! but still recon I'd stuff him on the twisties, up to the show next Sunday, will have a gud look at the new Adv, take care mate. regards dusan.

Someone will eventually produce a screen, seat, tank and panniers for this and then you will be able to go anywhere AND for a long time. But for the moment it's fine as it is.

big bmw bikes are doomed by the shaft choice as far as handling is conserned, too much unsprung weight, too far back. Not mentioning the trouble if something goes wrong. I enjoy my 1150gs but this as far as I 've been with beemers. My next bike will definately be a KTM.

And for the argonauts and tsiklonauts who swear by the name of HP2, the ktm950 can be a better off road machine and cost almost half the price.
A guy I know has gone down the route of shedding weight off his 950.
180 so far and dropping.

Yes, but the HP2 isn't a KTM - thats the point, that you've missed, thats gone sailing over your head, thats sneaked up behind you and kicked you up the arse .

if you wanted a dirt bike, you wouldn't buy a 950 KTM, would you .
See, thats the point, you buy what you want, perhaps it's not the best bike for the job, butit's what you want - now do you get it . ;)

or have you just heard something go whistling over your head again. :D

Maybe not the best offroad bike if you compare the prices of typical single-cyl bikes, but sure one of the best RALLY bikes! After the R900RR appeared to Paris-Dakar, it's been nr.1 dream-machine to many pro-riders on sand and gravel sections of the race, but sad the PD put restrictions on and BMW retired from the race then...

Rally and offroad are a bit different terms, much the same, but much different as well. Indeed, sure the HP2 copes relatively well offroad'n'dirt (the term as most of us know) as well. It's all up to rider afterall, the machine doesn't drive for you! For example look at Simo Kirrsi on HP2 on Cross Country series competing full season with 80kg lighter single-cyl machines on strict offroad/cross tracks and achieving astonishing 2nd place overall. Doesn't it say something about low centre of gravity and low rpm torque boxer bike's traction and maneuverability on offroad as well? ;)

PS: as a regular driver-traveller i'd vote for GSA, but to make popular and to see more talents competing on HP2's and it's analogues in the future i vote for it this time.:thumb

I think someone's here is disatified with their sex life!

However, thanks for letting me know that the HP2 is not a KTM.

Low center of gravity is a virtue, definately. Mass centralisation and low unsprung weight are two others. I haven't riden the HP2 but have ridden GSs and 950s off road, and the KTM is light years ahead.

The races were HPs and KTMs are winning over much lighter bikes are only races were the weight is not very critical as they involve looooong ooooopen straiiiiiights.

Glad i could help, you seemed confused that BMW had put a shaft drive on the HP2

Whooosh, earwig"O" again :D

I've changed me mind! Just seen Charlie Bormanns 650 Dakar bike at the show - I'll have that instead please :D :D :D

Though this thread is a choice between the GSA and HP2..

I think a 2nd hand KTM 950 with a decent dealer nearby would
be a good choice :)

Apples and Oranges?

Sorry, can't chose between these two as there is nothing to chose. Either you want a dirt bike or a touring bike. Done.

A better poll might have been HP2 vs KTM 950 or R1200GSA vs R1200RT.

If that were the case I would vote for the HP2 just 'cause I like BMWs. The Adventure versus the RT vote would be a little trickier. Maybe go for the Adv so that it won't get damaged as much in a parking lot tipover...

I,ll have the bird in the kylie shorts, on the stand just to the right of charlies new bike :D :D

Well, I saw the new ADV yesterday and loved it, although I'm not a fan of the 1200! I certainly don't think it's worth £9600 for a bog standard bike though.

Colour was great with some great little improvements such as the screen, ally cylinder guards etc :clap

Very nice!

Can't reply to the poll because the bikes ain't in the same league, so no point :mmmm
