With the spy shots and speculation about the imminent arrival of the new GS/GSA
I’ve been thinking about what I’d like to see added , removed or improved over the current bike.
I’ve had my first GS for a little over 18 months and 10000 miles and whilst I’m pretty happy with it there are some bits that will be on my letter to Santa. It’s not a long list.

I’d like BMW to put some serious work into making the quick shifter operate like the one on the XR or maybe a DCT version, I had a DCT Crosstourer and the gearbox was amazing.

Change the pillion pegs so that the rubber part is properly secure, my wife hurt herself when the grip twisted on the peg and she fell from the bike, cheap and piss poor IMO. Fitted Puig pegs and sorted it but shouldn’t have to.

Little more space under the seat would be nice, just enough to keep a puncture repair kit on the bike all the time maybe.

I think that’s about it.

I don’t think it needs more power or tech.

Be interested to hear what other more GS experienced owners think BMW should do to improve the bike.

Automatic suspension drop when you come to a stop.
The ability to use my current GSA Bumot Luggage.
Phone integration that actually works.
Electric screen.
Harp back to old rear lights which don’t all blend into one red light, an absolutely ridiculous unhelpful feature.

DCT auto box as most of us are at an age, when we can’t remember what gear we are in

You do know the GS displays the gear and has done for 20+ years :blast:D

Oh, and my wish list would be 1100cc version of the current boxer motor, 60mpg and a more svelt design.

I don’t want it to be faster, in fact, I’ll happily sacrifice some ooomph, for 60mpg at 80mph.

Be careful what you ask for..

The GS as you know it now will become the GS classic range

The next Gen GS will be so radically different

A DCT box could be good on the boxer, the Honda ones tend to change up too early in normal D mode but as the boxer pulls from nothing it could be more suitable, of course they could just program it differently

An electric screen could be nice, but not essential, otherwise I don’t need much tech, just a GPS, heated grips and electronic preload adjustment

The perfect luggage for me would fit like the varios, without needing scaffolding, but would be top loading, alloy or plastic or even soft I don’t care which, and the top case needs to hold 2 lids

Don’t really need any more power but why not if it gets more, torque is the important factor on the GS, more is a bonus

Would you buy one if they offered that option?

Not a chance. I’m ready to pay my deposit soon as, not for DCT though… agree, my Crosstourer was dreadful for changing just when you don’t want it too.

DCT box would probably increase my chances of the next bike being another GS.
Agree D did change up to early but very rarely had issues in S mode.

The issue with a DCT box changing up early isn’t a problem after you’ve put some miles on it. My wing used to be in 7th gear by 37mph when new. Now, after 20k miles it won’t engage top until about 60mph.

As for a wish list.
More comfortable seat, preferably heated.
Better suspension.
More economical rather than more power.
Lower and lighter would be good.

The most important thing of all…….BETTER BUILD QUALITY.

Better build quality rather than more useless trinkets .
Better gear box
Better seat
Less weight
Complete redesign
£5k price reduction

Hopefully all the 1250 “extras” will fit the new 1300/1400, panniers etc, but looking at other major updates over the years, doubt it. :nenau

TD.

I'd like 1300 to be the first bike I could buy (in last 40 years) that would be buffeting-free for me from the factory.

Hartley, you haven't got a relative in SoCal have you?

Anyway, I want 180hp, 200lbft torque 17" wheels..........

I've had the 1150, 1200 hexhead, 1200 LC and now 1250 GSA models and this latest is by far the best. Best engine, gearbox and seat of the lot. Height of the bike is perfect for us long legged, short body types, that's why I ride it. The screen isn't as good as the hexhead one and adjusting it as you ride is a pain, an electric one would be superb. I've never had any issues with build quality, rust, corrosion etc on any of my bikes, I don't know what some people do to their's or expect:nenau. My penny's worth is if it's not broken then it doesn't need fixing. Anyway, merry xmas to the lot of you:beerjug:

You ruled one out then? :D

Probably the best thing they could do would be to bring in a 1,000cc GS Boxer that had shed a lot of weight and was designed for doing big miles on all kinds of terrain but that’s so far away from what the majority of buyers today expect from a GS that it’s not even remotely possible.

As a clue they could make a Desert X as opposed to the latest Multistrada and that’s the only thing that would make me consider buying a new GS.

The new bike doesn't need to be any lower in height, there are plenty of other perfectly good bikes you can buy if you're a shortarse.

Not sure what I said, lower on stop. It was a “wish” list of if you could.
I agree no lower but what a treat to lower on road mode when you stop…

Morning, reliable connectivity. Bit lighter in weight.

17k miles on my 21 and it has been faultless. My quick shifter is fantastic.

I’m actually looking at this slightly differently as I’ll likely get a new GS when released simply due to wanting a new bike.

If they did a DCT AFrica Twin with a fatter front wheel and a bit more power that’s where I’d go (again).
