R1300GS / the good the bad & the ugly

Saw a geezer riding one today not long after seeing someone on a 1250gs. It looked tiny in comparison. Out near Sudbury so guessing a Reiten Motorrad demo bike.

Spareparts…If the farmer cant swim he blames the speedos…LOL If the bike falls over the boxer protects all that broken plastic or bend levers…If a car turns in front of you I rather have the cylinder hit the fender than my leg ! For that reason alone I only ride boxers on the road where people in cages dont pay attention and the boxer gives you s little passive safety…

And for fun of course riding the 1250 GS is fun…But not as much fun as riding the S1000XR which for me is the funnest bike having superbike power and performance without being hunched over in the missionary position…Only bad thing is the tractor seat making it harder to hang-off but it looks the took care of that problem with the new one for 2024…!

What, like when the car ran their red lights and I drove into the "cage" who "don't pay attention"? Yes... the cylinder hit the fender and not my legs... (fwiw, I landed about 10m the other side of the Benz as this was a 40+mph head on)

If you spoke from actual knowledge gained from real experience, we might take you more seriously. Until then, keep up at the back, eh?

Please do us all a favour. Sell the GS. Go buy an XR. You'll enjoy it far more. Seriously. 8000 - 14k rpm is where the S1000 engine loves to play, and you'll enjoy all 170 or better yet, the 201hp of the new MXR. I'm sure you can enjoy the steering feedback, find luggage, and learn how to oil a chain.

'THE FUNNEST BIKE'....Are you 11 years old ? Your posts are comedy gold.

Boxerlust...are you a clockmaker?

Spareparts I saw an accident last year where a guy on a R1200R ran wide in a ride turn hitting fender and taking the skin off the drivers side door…The guy very lucky had only a few bruises…On any other bike he would have lost his left leg…Last year a friend of mine on a 1200 GS pulled out of parking lot a lady not paying attention pulled right into him crushing his left valve cover braking 2 valves…No injury to him as his leg would have been badly damaged if it wasnt for the boxer…Otherwise I would have bought an XR long time ago despite loving Telelever & clean shaftdrive…Just want a boxer with a little more fun on top…Look at the new Ducati 652 single making 84 hp at 10200…That would be 168 hp if it was a 1300 twin…Not too much to ask for…! And no I am not a clockmaker but love watches…My brother is a watchmaker though…LOL

So you buy a boxer thinking it protects your legs from when you crash, but want it to perform like an IL4 because you think boxers are all about top end power and revs like you are on a racetrack? So you berate BMW for making a product you are ignorant about its strengths? Take a hike buddy and learn how to ride. Because if you did, you would know that flat out in places like Mexico with straight roads is for IL4s hombre, not adventure bikes where going offroad at low/mid rpms is where you want it. Or try a KTM which prioritises top end and social media folks like Chris Birch who get paid for riding on the back wheel. No one GAS about your wet dreams, so please do us a favour and do one!

Engineer you dont have a clue…You go to Mexico and 8 out of 10 nikes you see are GS and for a good reason…Nobody talks here about 200 plus hp at 14000 rpm but a boxer doing 1000 rpm more on top making somewhere between 155 and 165 hp would be close to perfect for road riding as also a tank that gives you 200 miles range no matter how far you open the throttle…! Like I said I love the XR as the funnest bike for the road but something similar with Boxer TL & shaft would be better !

But it would need 17” wheels and pannier sliders ….

Sent from my Nokia 3310 using Thetwatcantalk

Puki I had a Puch Maxi, too…LOL Schtum…Die Hoffnung stirbt zuletzt…I hope Reiner has some good surprises for us in the bag as a XR type Boxer as also a S type boxer are missing in the model line for sure !

:D :D :D

It just gets better. For about 11 riders in So/Nor Cal, BMW need to invent a magic engine (Verstappen and F1 ... take note, this could affect you guys too) all the power you could ever need, just the right size of tank and 60mpg flat out...perfect.

Dave B…That indeed would be perfect ! But I am sure there is more than 11 people who would buy such a bike…I remember thinking what have they done when the S1000XR came out and so have others…Today it is the most successful version of the S1000 line ! I dont know if it would knock the mighty GS off its top spot but a GS that is optimized for people who prefer tarmac to dirt with a little more beans on top for sure would find its fans like the XR did ! Or just give the GS more beans and offer the right size tank somewhere between too small and too big and the option for a forged 17 wheel kit with the suspension for the right geometry for a grand or two with 320mm rotors included !

Boxerlust, are you a head of state, just asking.

That thing about 19L tank on 1300, I don't know. My 1250 went today to 0 miles left as I ran out of gas. The bike was still running as I was entering gas station but showing 0 miles left. I filled it up and it took 18,2 liters. I shook it left-right many times and filled up to a gas cap. Not a drop more was possible to get in. So, does 1250 have 20L tank and I still had more then a liter in the tank or it's just BS?

Maybe the pump was off as I have put 21 liters in a 1250 tank running on fumes which I really dont like because it cant be good for the fuel pump…But why did they make an already small tank even smaller on a travel bike like a GS ?? 23 liters should be minimum,25 would be better…LOL But I guess they want to sell 3 ADV for every regular GS come 2025…The full monty for even more !
