R1300GS / the good the bad & the ugly

Also lighter forged wheels and a Akrapovic exhaust that sounds better than Ducati or KTM right from the factory!
Having just moved from the R1250GSA with a Yoshi can and Akra headers, I can 100% confirm that it doesn't sound better (or louder) than my current Ducati Streetfighter V4. Hahaha.

Of course the sports suspension is taller front & back and has slightly stiffer springs as also less trail for quicker steering...But on the new system you can adjust the spring rate ! There is lots of stuff about it on the net how it works...

I have ridden both bikes the regular GS and the one with sports suspension which is the same as the one put on the GS-ADV on the 1250GS...The sports suspension is better for fast road riding as in stiffer, quicker steering and 20 mm more ground clearance...How it is off road I dont know as I dont ride in the dirt ! But I can imagine off road it is also better as it gives you 20 mm more suspension travel / more reserves if you ride hard off road what only very few people do with a bike as heavy and expensive as a GS or their ilk...If you want to ride off road buy a lighter and cheaper dirt bike...LOL
FML you are an utter tw@t.

I’m ordering one in a couple of weeks. Haven’t decided if I go for pure white or trophy. And I’m going to fit my 17 inch wheels. It’s it’s Pure White I’ll get them painted Megamoto blue. If it’s a trophy I’ll keep them gold.

HGS...Sports suspension is for fast road riding...Stiifer springs, less trail and 20 mm more ground clearance before the bags/pegs touch ! That was true for the 1250GS and is still true for the 1300GS...This time you can even get forged wheels which are according to BMW are 1,8 Kg lighter than the cast ones....Less gyro/quicker steering !
Roundincircles...It would be interesting to know if they used steel because it is sturdier and more flexible or only to keep the cost down and if aluminum would have been lighter and if how much vs how much more expensive the bike would have been...!?
As for the engine 149Nm Torque is 11 more than a KTM and 24 more than the MS-V4 but 1000rpm more and 15-20 hp more would have been fun !
Hoped for a Boxer with 3 crank bearings instead of symmetric cylinders...Oh well another 10 years to wait...LOL
I think a boxer with a 3 bearing crank would have some serious problems with the footrest positioning. The cylinders are offset with the two bearing crank.

At least the footrests are inline, unlike the airheads.

Yes the cylinders are in one line now because the camchain is in front of one and behind the other cylinder now but think about the benefits of 3 crank bearings like the R18 has compared to 2...A little offset cylinders which is ok as they are so far ahead of the riders chins anyways but the engine could rev higher which means more POWER....And the sports suspension has big advantages on road...Stiffer springs , 20 mm more clearance before sheet drags and shorter trail ! But I might have been wrong on one account as the configurator might be misleading after talking to my dealer today who said sports-suspension is on available on the Trophy package which sucks if you like black better than blue...Reggie if you go 17 inch take the sports suspension as you will loose an inch....Unless you just go cruising then it does not matter...LOL
Hope the M-GS will get 17 inch wheels from the factory and not be a HP Enduro with 21 inch front wheel which would totally suck...LOL
BMW needs a GS going against the MS-PikesPeak and the upcoming 1390 KTM ADV with 17 inch wheels !
Hope your wheels will fit,Reggie....Otherwise order the lighter forged wheels from BMW which are a steal as a factory option with the Brembo Stylema sport brakes and bigger discs and call it a day ! I would do the same but dont like the 19 liter tank and hoped for 155hp/nm at 8500/6500 rpm....Hopefully for the mid-cycle refresh in 2028...LOL

Hopefully the Ducati and KTM rider will wait for the GS boy at the next coffee stop due to the 30 ish bhp deficit who then gets lost at night because his switch gear still isn’t backlit

We're not all fat
I think Boxerlust is just so exited about the all new jaw-dropping GS, his chin has hit the deck.
Presumably, he was in that moment of excitement at the time of clickety-clacking on the keys.

LOL? XR M coming soon for the wet dreams. Any way, new GS looks slim/compact in comparison with the Tiger.

This is key for me, the current 1250GS is a fine handling road bike….BUT, same as previous GS the one weakness is not being able to fine tune. we should be able to adjust preload, high and low speed damping etc. I like a bit weight over the front, suspension firm but not so hard that the bike just rattles over bumps. Choices for adjustment have been limited on the 1250.
IF the 1300 offers this kind of control of settings, then I better start saving!

Er, cylinders were offset because one conrod was further forward than the one that was behind it...
Fiddling with cam chain tunnels doesn't count. IMHO.

For heavens sake - if you need 155BHP go and buy a Nico Bakker K1600GS!

Comparing to Honda the new GS is great even if it could have been so much better with 155hp at 8750 rpm to give a 1000 rpm plus range and a 24 liter tank…But maybe they go back like in the old days to two engine ratings and pour on the power for the M1300GS with 17 inch wheels and R1300S…! The new Afreeka Twin gets a 19 inch front and and whopping 102 hp…LOL MS has 24 NM less torque , stone age fork and bicycle chain and costs even more thanks to our great leadership in Washington , London , Brussels…Which made cars motorcycles and gas…Barely Affordable ! This is not BMWs or Ducatis fault as even the japanese crap is priced to the moon…oh well we get what we ask for every 4 years so we cant complain but a Guzzi for sure is no alternative as their V1000 would have been nice if it was 2003 and not 2023…LOL

In that regard the new R1300GS will be the king is dead / long live the new king even if we have to wait another 10 years for the aluminum frame , 24 l tank and 3 crankbearing boxer making 160hp/nm…LOL Like I said it could have been worse aka fork & chain…LOL

Real sports suspension starts at about £1500.
This is +350 for the extra 15 ~ 20mm of wheel travel. on top of the 3500 or 4000 that they will be charging for the replacement shocks for R1300GS .
At the moment there is no aftermarket replacement for this type of suspension people at Tractive are working hard to come up with something but it will take time.
From what I know the only downside of this generation could be extremely high internal oil pressure. The shocks will get an extra spring rate from the piston rod force. When trying to gain an extra 30N of spring force on the 15mm shaft you will need about 80 bar of internal oil pressure and that was archived with the secondary high-pressure chamber.
I can't wait my self to take one of those on the dyno and for the test ride.

The ducati will be parked up waiting for the rac?aa van.

Sports suspension is taller but the new ESA as a worlds first regardless of sports or regular suspension can actually alter the spring rate which is pretty awesome ! Like having a soft 140 nm and a harder 170 nm spring on the same bike depending what terrain you ride or if you go solo on bad roads or two up and fully loaded on smooth ones…Amazing as until now the spring rate was always a compromise between being too soft for occasional two up holiday trips or too hard for riding solo the rest of the year…Very good a no other shock maker / oem manufacturer offers this yet…! Most people think adding preload / compressing the spring makes it harder but they are dead wrong as the spring rate stays the same…Until now , very cool and very useable for different rider weights , riding surfaces as smooth or bumpy and riding solo or two up or even two up with gear…!
