R1300GS / the good the bad & the ugly

That thing about 19L tank on 1300, I don't know. My 1250 went today to 0 miles left as I ran out of gas. The bike was still running as I was entering gas station but showing 0 miles left. I filled it up and it took 18,2 liters. I shook it left-right many times and filled up to a gas cap. Not a drop more was possible to get in. So, does 1250 have 20L tank and I still had more then a liter in the tank or it's just BS?
IIRC a true gallon is measured at 15c as density is affected by temperature. So if it was over 15c then the pumped gallon is smaller than a true gallon. If it was below 15c then the pumped gallon is larger than a true gallon so a full tank, from empty, will be less than 20 litres.

Pat attention at the back.

Couple of interesting photos on the BMW and Ducati Fever fb group.

The photos are taken with a wide angle lens so make things look smaller the further away they are (look at the cars in the background on the 2nd photo) because of this distortion in the first photo the GS looks smaller than it actually is because the Ducati is closer to the camera, confirmed by looking at the front wheels of both bikes. The GS also has a small screen on which adds to the illusion in both photos.

The new GS looks like a minibike compared to a MS…And not bad compared to a MS…Wonder what takes so long as we still have not seen any real numbers as in weight , dyno , mpg and acceleration/roll-on 1250 vs 1300 GS…!

The Ducati from the front looks purposeful, well considered....just right. The GS looks shite

Have to disagree on that, I'd say that the GS looks great in those side by side - compact, purposeful. Full of intent.
If only it had a 17" front wheel

Had the Multi but the GS looks better as it’s not a re hash of the originals , the Gs has moved the game on and made a statement whether or not you like it , lets hope they don’t make the mistake they made with the PP ( parts bin bike) and make the Boxerlust Express 😂

Yes I hope they stay with 145 hp and 19 liter tank because less people would by the GS if it had 155 hp and a 24 liter tank for sure…LOL Less is more after all…LOL As for the looks of the MS I think it looks way better than the KTM 1290 but it is not a good looking bike either as the beak reminds me of a fat Duc or goose…The times of good looking or sounding italian bikes are sadly long gone…As for the GS it does not strike me as a ugly bike and if anything too nice bland or mainstream as all the other crap out there and I miss the uniqueness or uglyness that made the GS the bike it is…Like the BMW M2 or M3/4 where people bitch about the styling which is good because people take notice and while not beautiful at least they stand out and are unique in the bland sea of sameness which the GS lost in some kind of way but some people who come from mainstream japanese bikes might actually like how the new GS looks like…But I can only see 2 parts of the bike that rub me wrong which are the radar boxes and the missing tail light as also the black windshield mount thay should be redone at the first update as also a hp bump as the ADV will take care of the missing tank range…But still wished I would not have to go back to the full fat version of the GS because after 3 GS-ADVs I got used and loved the smaller size of the regular GS in combination with the 20mm taller and slightly stiffer ADV suspension…

The GS as it is looks so much more dynamic than the MS as also TL & Shaftdrive are so much better than fork & chain…As for the engine what the MS has in hp above 8000 rpm over the GS the GS has in Torque above the MS from 2000 to 8000 rpm…So in real life the GS needs to be shifted less and accelerate harder unless you keep the MS above 8000 rpm…The choice is clear for this type of motorcycles! But BMW could have closed the gap on top which would have made it perfect and gave it a real edge above the outgoing 1250…

Wonder if KTM finally gets a new design because the Kiska look and especially the headlight are getting really stale or if they only bump the displacement to 1390 cc…But who cares as I would never buy a KTM anyways as ugly and plasticy as the look…And on top of that made in China and still charging top $$$ !

Looks like 2024 for the KTM. I was wondering the same due to the huge discounts on the current model. It was only ever the headlight that put me off the KTM

I must be a weirdo as I think the KTM 1290r looks stunning as I do the new GS. And the Multistrada as it happens. I think the original pikes peak version was a stunning looking bike. If the KTM had a decent dealer near me and a shaft drive I would be struggling not to have one. Same goes for the Ducati. The triumph has shaftdrive but I hate it to look at and it can be the best bike in the world but if I open the garage and don’t like what I look at it ain’t happening.

I agreed a PX of my R1250GS last Friday that I’ve had for the past 18 months. I had a R1200GS TC for 11 years prior. I’ve loved the 1250 but constantly said, I wish it was a bit lighter, I wish it was easier to manage weight wise. There have been a several occasions when putting my foot down at a stop that the floor was further away than anticipated.
BMW have sorted it for me with the 1300 and the fancy lowering suspension thing, so I’m happy. Number 5 GS on the way.

Totally agree That Tiger was disappointing to look at IMO. I was looking forward to it. Gets great reviews and with shaft drive was on my list. Just looks too bland for me.

I think the Tiger as big and top heavy as it is does not even belong in the same category…On top of that very expensive and made in Thailand…I never see them anymore out in the wild while years ago you could at least see some women ride the smaller ones which makes sense because women like cats…LOL

Tspivey…Congratulations ! I am not as happy as you are because riding my 1250 I am constantly thinking I wish it had a little more on top like a XR does , I wish the tank had a gallon more without having to go back to the ADV and I wish it would not wobble like an old goats dick going 120 plus with bags / top case…LOL

Stickywicket…KTM will get 1390 ccm and a new headlight as also a version with 17” wheels…I am already jealous…LOL

Hopefully it won’t burn Mrs Wickets ass like my 1190 did. She friggin hates that thing! Can’t wait for it though. Need a last run at a bit of hooliganism before I get to 63

great review (dont know if its been posted

It doesn't need to stop at 63. Pal of mine only got rid his XR at 80 as he was starting to get serious shoulder problems riding. He always rode it like he stole it.
