I am just about to purchase some stuff from motor bins and the voltage regulator for the bike is available (I think) in 3 forms

Mechanical as per original -£90
High output - £54
Electronic - £30

So any advice welcome as to which one to choose . I feel like going for the slightly smaller electronic one as long as it has the same connection. After all it is hidden under the tank.
Thanks guys in advance

Just check out the Mechanical Regulator, methinks it's the same as on old VW's etc and ten a penny from the scrap yard, easy to check over and clean up :thumb

I had a Yamaha XS Triple 750 and the rectifier and the regulator were all in the same box of tricks. The regulator went down, was going to cost the earth, looked at the wiring, and put an old Bosch mechanical regulator in to the system ... sorted :thumb

:beerjug:

Mine has the later, smaller one fitted. It can't be seen with the tank on, so I'd save the money and spend it on a nice steak pie, a bag of chips and three tanks o'fuel. :D

Regulator

I have one of the standard (red) electronic regulators on my 90S. I didn't fit it so can't really comment on the compatibility with the original connections. The 90S originally had a lower output alternator so if yours is an early one there might not be much benefit in fitting one of the expensive high output (black) ones.
I have three or four spare (red) ones. PM me if you'd prefer not to pay £30!
Dave.

EUROMOTOELECTRICS in the US has them at a sensible price - he even has an adjustable one, handy if you fancy fitting a modern battery which works better with a little more charging voltage.

An adjustable one you say, oh my oh my that's marvelous i wonder why nobody had thought of that before .....

Can i just point out that the old mechanical one is adjustable......

Carry on :D .

Sorry, I should have said adjustable electronic , main point was that the EME electronic adjustable one is around $30 - compared to around $180- for the Motobins mechanical one - might matter to some folks.

Main point being if they already have a mechanical one fitted it can be adjusted at no cost whatsoever... :D

I have ordered and received a new electronic regulator from Motobins today .
Job done and you cannot beat something with no moving parts.
After all it is hidden under the tank and it has the same female connection.

Thanks chaps
