Hi Guys,i`m fitting a Starcom 1 into a mates tank bag using a Puxing radio and as soon as i switch on i/e connect the helmet the radio goes into transmit.I have tried a different radio, changed the ptt and the radio to Starcom lead still the same. This leads me to believe the Starcom might be faulty unless you know something else i could try.Don`t say teach it to swim :aidan

You don't have the VOX on the radio switched on do you? On a Puxing PX-888 press 'menu' > '3' > 'enter'. The display should say 'VOXOFF'. If instead there's 'VOX 1' or any other number up to 9 then turn the larger knob on the top until it says 'VOXOFF' press 'enter' > 'esc' > 'esc'.

Puxing PX-777 and PX-888 use a Kenwood lead, lead, other leads may give unpredictable results.

Nice spot Bumpkin:thumb2 it was the vox on the Starcom.Who would have thought turning it anticlockwise turns it on :comfort Gawd its sometimes the simplest thing that screw with you aint it.

Another Starcom problem

Can anybody shed any light on why I am only receiving sound through one side of the headset. All was working fine until recently and I don't think i've changed or knocked any settings?

Check the speaker in the helmet,I have had a couple fail.As you might have gathered from this thread i have a few spares.I think Starcom only sell them as a complete headset :(

Thanks for that- is this a stupid question, but is there any easy way of checking the speaker?

Hi Guy,
check the plug from the headset and make sure one of the pins has not become bent and is no longer mating correctly with the other plug, this happened to me and I lost sound from the one speaker.

The mini din plugs on these headsets are a real pain, after bending the pins in three headsets i decided enough was enough, after all the sets are not cheap.I bought a standard din plug and socket from Maplins and swopped them over.I sealed the whole lot with hot glue,no further problem. If you moan to Starcom they will deny there is a problem but several friends have also had this headache.

Guy if it`s the speaker pm me your address and if i`ve got a spare i will pop it in the post for you.

Thanks everyone for your advice - i checked the pins today and you were right - one of then was bent. After finding a small pair of tweezers it was straightened out and re-connected. I know have sound back in both sides. Thanks again for all your help. Cheers:D
