Radio suppression problem

I have been trying to set up bike to bike radio and it seems my bike, 12GSA, has a serious suppression problem. The radio picks up interference from the engine at a distance of 2 metres. Does anyone know a fix for this? As this doesn't happen with other 1200s it is clear that my bike needs a new bit but which bit?
For all the juvenile idiots out there, no I won't sell my bike and buy a slow 1150!

Hi Bob

With the Baehr bike to bike units we fit, we sometimes get a similar problem on 1200GS/A......

The siting of the radios, the power/PTT cables and the external aerial (if any) are absolutely critical.

For instance if the radio us under the seat and the power is taken from the underseat socket and the PTT cable runs along the left side of the bike.....interference is amost non-existent.

Baehr also have an optional filter for the power cable to eliminate power spikes etc.

Also earthing the intercom unit/bike to bike radio is critical and it's also good practice to take the power for both units from the same source.

Worth trying a ferrite ring round the power input cables to the radio. You can buy one for very little money from Maplins and what they do is stop AC signals going up the wire into the radio.

the problem depends mainly on the quality of the radio and its selectivity. any engine has electronic fields round it from lots of sources - your radio should be well enough protected not to pick them up.

Thanks guys but I think it is a problem with my bike, as I said I can disconnect the radio completely from the bike and it still picks up interference from it up to two metres away. Someone has suggested it may be the coils and to try swapping them so I will take it to the dealers I think.
