Rattling engine and seizing exhaust flap.

I quite like that. Less complicated, but tank range only 140 miles...? Maybe that is standard for a midrange, but I look forward to seeing it in the flesh.
T7 has a 16 litre tank and the one I rode was averaging 60mpg (on a bike that had covered 5000 demo miles) so easily 200 to a tank and people reckon 65mpg for nearer 230 to a tank

2009 I had a 650 Vstrom, you didn't start looking for fuel till you'd done 200mls, if you rode like it was your last tank of fuel you could get 300mls.

That is like 3 hours riding time at 62 mph , I certainly need a break and time for a coffee and fill up after that, seems that tank is plenty, and the lesser weight is helpful also.

I recently sold my 2013 GS LC and bought the bike in my avatar, a 2002 Yamaha Fazer FZS600 for £200. It had been garaged for 9 years, no battery, flat tyre and throttle jammed closed with the butterflies encrusted with dried out old petrol.

New battery, a set of new tyres and a second hand set of carbs (remember them) and it stands me at £600. Bike had done 16000 miles.

What a great bike !

94 horsepower, a 22 litre tank with a range of about 230+ miles and in pretty good condition. It is great fun to ride and did a 1200 mile trip to Scotland and back without missing a beat.

Fueling is perfect with no snatchiness, handles well and has a nice riding position. Of course it has no electronics, no ABS or traction control.

I look at some of the modern stuff now and see lots of cheaply produced parts and wonder why new bikes cost as much as they do.

I've come to the conclusion that newer is not necessarily better.

Oh don’t start me off. I sold my FZ1 before my move to BMW.

Why, oh why does this keep happening? Whenever I think about buying a new BMW, I read about these issues, which fill me with zero confidence in the brand. When will someone at the top take the control away from the accountants, and go back to making reliable bikes? I fear that won’t ever happen.

Sorry to hear of your issues, Mark. I hope you get the positive outcome you deserve on this. :thumb

I had one of those, 26000 miles and not a single thing went wrong with it. Only fly in the ointment was the poor tank range when touring abroad. I bought a petrol can on this trip and strapped it on the back.
Another great bike from Yamaha.

190kg dry and 205kg fuelled, feels lighter when riding it though

Hear Hear...................nothing in the current GS range to interest me now and the constant running back & too to the dealer to identify/fix.... glitches/faults/niggles etc is irksome and a waste of time too

Obviously done by BMW to keep you in a care and worry free Orange state of mind...........;)

I totally agree that build quality on BMW bikes has fallen over the years, however it would be interesting to know what percentage of bikes have issues?
I fully appreciate that if you get one of the bikes that has problems there is nothing worse, but now many dont.
Mark i hop you get yours sorted.
I Sent to KTM for 18 months, fortunately thought a nearly new bike with loads of extras for a good price. Wasn't for me and have gone back to a 13 plate hexhead, however KTM as a brand are as annoying as BMW in a different way in that they keep discounting their bikes massively , which is great if buying at that discounted price but not if selling a second hand bike.

It doesn’t matter that you don’t buy the best selling adventure bike on the market. Thousands do and have zero issues with them. The three year warranty’s should be peace of mind against any problems costing you anything to repair. Bet the orange squad don’t do that !

I've got a 2017 R1200GSA with 17000 miles on it with no problems.

Yes it had a new shaft and final drive, but that wasn't a mechanical problem.

All works as it should.... so far.

most bikes will have issues, i would rather a seized exhaust valve over other issues. Such as keys not responding on KTMs leaving you stranded

hope it gets sorted and quickly Mark .....Im actually holding off in purchasing the 1250, Im waiting for "things" to calm down. I actually thought last night ,Ive not heard any recurring issues for a while and would go the dealers this week to start the ball rolling.....will hold on a bit longer now

Could not agree more. Not just BMW, but all mechanical products nowadays. Always buy the mk2 model or final run model even better. You give up “novelty” and pub bragging rights for a better product. Always. Especially as most things today with part of their lifing and development factor done by the first customers.

That's why I bought my (new to me) 2018 R1200 GS TE in May 2019 when it had a total of 1,400 miles on clock. The known issues have been previously identified (however not addressed such as the exhaust flap valve; ESA dynamic suspension; corrosion.) Anyway, I've two years warranty and at the end of the day it's only money and you can't take it with you to Valhalla.

Wise decision and as BMW say every 3rd tank of fuel, run the ESA through its loops, setting different heights etc, there is surely a reason for this, it only takes a minute or so, but surely avoids a lot of problems I reckon if done at least every month, engine running and not on the bike, flap valve seems to be one of those problems, a few have it and many do not, and others do not even know they have it stuck.............;)
