Rattling engine and seizing exhaust flap.

its amazing how they all make noises but different ones depending on the bike? I'm on my 3rd modern GS and they have all had their own sounds associated with each one. So to say 'they all do that' as we know, is rubbish.

Manufacturing tolerance and set up, can be the only reason I guess, but how much variation is there in these things?... I would have thought as things moved forward, certainly the limits and fits would get tighter... so is it all down to build.

was told by my dealer that BMW expected the LC's to be very quiet as has happened in other bikes going water cooled so they made things a bit thinner due to the deadening effect?

Not sure how true that is?

Take it to Marks and you can compare noises.... I like my dealer but they do lie through their back teeth!.... I remember the quote from the Service guy when I bought my first and asked about reliability... 'they don't appear to have many issues, we've not seen any problems'... He's says with 10 bays full of warranty jobs. :augie

Yes aren’t they fekkin roads at times!

The lies is one of the things that stopped me in my tracks when I seriously considered a 1250 this time round. Do these dealers not realise that every issue gets discussed on bike forums now? :blast

That's probably why the Honda Africa Twin forum is so quiet.....

I've only heard of one issue (which never affected me anyway) and that was warranty rusty spokes on some wheels.

Not one single thing else in 2 years so far

You go and look at the Honda Africa Twin section on this site..... 3 pages of threads and not one complaint about a broken bike !!!

They're all about farkles, trips and fun.

Funnily enough I bumped into a geezer at the V Strom meet two weeks ago who had a AT and ended up with three sets of spokes. 1st were loose, replacement set went rusty with the third set being SS - all sorted under warranty. I stress I`m not Honda bashing (I could hardly do that anyway, riding a BMW :D) I`m just saying!

Btw I did have a loan AT for a while (to design some farkles for it) yes it did seem well made (apart from the OEM luggage - which was shockingly sh1te) but it was not for me, underpowdered (for me). I thought the back brake had been disconnected (for me) and lacking any `perzazz` (for me). Otherwise I must say that it seemed to be a cracking bike :thumb2well done Honda for reinventing the AT :bounce1

Tried one, but no use two up, found the seat about 2" too short.

It is a nice bike, and wheels apart, what common issues have they ???

I’m not knocking BMW, the bike has a 3 year warranty so if there is an issue it will get fixed and to be fair this is my 6th water cooled GS, I change them at about 10,000 miles and I have had zero issues with the last 5 bikes, I do ride the miles, Europe and Scotland every year.
The characteristics on this new motor are sublime, and particularly for this type of bike, so I’ll stick with it and of course it may just be that the dealer on this occasion is right when he says, they all do that sir! :augie.

Well, maybe somebody needs to come off the fence then.

I had one on an extended loan/test ride and hated it. Under powered, unexciting handling, one of the most boring bikes I've ever ridden and it truly lived up to Honda's rep for functional bikes with no soul :D

Take it off-road and see if it still lacks perzazz, I bet that'll give you some excitement even at 15% throttle :D

Make sure you have life insurance, and a spare quiet room to rest in for 4 weeks with no meetings planned for a while :D

I`m absolutely sure you are right, I bet the AT is sublime off road but sadly I was unable to see for myself - loan bike and all of that.

Had the luck to try this too - amazing for £4K but oh so shocking in many other ways. Not had this off road either out of respect for the kind owner who’s lent it to me

And only in absolute fairness if I had a choice between this Indian made bike and my 1250 to go around the Himalayas sadly I’d pick the Enfield, knowing that I could possibly fix it on the roadside! It’s very funny tho - when you crack the throttle open on exit absolutely NOTHING happens and the engine makes growling noises - very entertaining!

Are you talking the new AT here? One without the clutch lever as its auto or something?
Bloke at work too one out and said it was fantastic once you got used to the thing.. and was quoting over 100 BHP ?
