Rattling engine and seizing exhaust flap.

I’m not knocking BMW, the bike has a 3 year warranty so if there is an issue it will get fixed and to be fair this is my 6th water cooled GS, I change them at about 10,000 miles and I have had zero issues with the last 5 bikes, I do ride the miles, Europe and Scotland every year.
The characteristics on this new motor are sublime, and particularly for this type of bike, so I’ll stick with it and of course it may just be that the dealer on this occasion is right when he says, they all do that sir! :augie.

I think that BMW are banking on their customers having this attitude that “it has a warranty, so will be fixed”. Not knocking you personally, but until more people start voting with their feet, this shoddy quality is just going to get worse.

I was at Bahnstormer on Saturday, and the new bikes look fantastic, but have a closer look, and the cost cutting is blatantly obvious. How they can have the audacity to charge over £20k for an undeveloped bike is truly taking the piss.

And before anyone accuses me of BMW bashing, I’m not. I’m stating facts.

No your not, your talking rubbish. Give me one manufacturer who sells new models and doesn't have the odd issue. I did over 20k on my 1200 and was perfectly happy with the quality and any issues I had was sorted pdq. I now have a 1250 and again am happy with it so far. Try owning a Harley and getting anything from them and if you want to talk quality its a joke even on a 30k bike.

Indeed I often stop touching myself just to use both hands on the glass :)

My complaint is that is vibrates all through the right hand side from pegs up to the handlebars.its enough to make my leg and hand go numb.

I have noticed that, without exception (yet), it’s always just the one cylinder and never two that get ‘the rattles’!

It's probably something to do with the Shift Cam actuation.

If both cylinder Shift Cam's Actuate at the same time on both cylinders, the pistons are in different cycles. So maybe its always the one side that actuates with the piston in the (right/wrong position), causing more wear on the other side? friction or whatever?

Or something in the piston position cycle on the weakest cylinder side, causing more stress and wear?
