A plaque at Cronin's Yard commemorates the 5 victims.
Was this a farm yard that you once set out from and payed the auld doll 50p
for parking the car, only up it once and can remember the date well 15/8/98
The day of the omagh bomb!!:(

The same yard; the auld doll is Eileen; before the mobile phone that auld doll was the woman to spot cars still in the yard late in the evening and raise a mountain rescue alert. Her son John is a member of Kerry mountain rescue along with myself and 30 or so others.
You'll have to give it another shot to dissociate it from such an apalling day in our history.

spent the weekend walking in the mournes too.
have the use of a fantastic cottage up spence's mountain.
boirche - I know there is at least one ww2 bomber up there somewhere - we were talking about it on saturday - have you a grid ref for it? is it up near chimney rock??

oh yea that must be the one up above John Carrs were Bert used to stay...i have grid refs for most of them in a local book that was produced "Twelve square miles of Mourne" but for the life of me can't find it (think i loaned it out :()if i get it i will PM it to you, there was a large American airbase on the outskirts of Kilkeel that streched as far as Cranfield...another bomber crashed on the far side of Carlingford lough above Omeath, think there were a few survivors and at least one came back in later yrs to thank the local people and far as i rem the pics hung in Howes bar in the village.

WHO KNOWS?

. . who knows where King's Gully is, Ben Bulbin, & is it accessible these times?
Land owners were denying access in that region, some time back.
