Reims - avoid ..!!

Blimey I stayed at Brithotel about 4 miles SE of Reims twice a few weeks ago.
Reception said gates were shut a 10pm and gave me a PIN for the morning.

Last week 2 mates of a mate had both brand new R1300 GSs stolen in Reims! 🫣

All bad news cause I do love an occasional champagne binge at the bar trying all the different ones. Actually love the city 👍
PS. Doc if you’re listening - this is the place for you ..………….Aix-en-Provence too 👍👍

I’ll just stick to my 36 year old airhead, never thought about locking it up although do prefer underground parking when available.

Just one as far as I know.
Kyriad
Yes you are correct - it looks relatively new and on an industrial estate, looks as dodgy as fcuk :)

Next time I head to the south of France I'll give Reims/Tinquex a miss and press on to Troyes - I've used the Kyriad Center, it has a gated underground carpark and just a short walk into the town and restuarants.

And the French police too cowardly to do anything about it despite knowing exactly where the bikes were.
They have a well known history for cowardice. Wankers.
I stand to be corrected but I am ashamed to say that you would very likely get exactly the same response in Blighty.

As someone who wants to do their first trip into Europe, this thread isn't filling me with much confidence :ROFLMAO:
There is quite a lot of tongue in cheek scaremongering going on here. I’ve toured France many, many times on motorbikes and it hasn’t been stolen yet. I do keep a pound of butter in the fridge so it’s probably that.
Just take the usual precautions and it’ll be fine.
I’ve also toured Scotland many times, Ireland, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Norway and even wales (never again though) twice. Again, it hasn’t been stolen yet.
Have a great trip.

Now you've done it

Avoid those cheap dodgy looking hotels on out of town industrial estates in France - book a properly posh hotel with underground gated parking - about £350 per night is a good start.

Is it safe to go to Reims yet?
Call in on your way back and recce the joint,

1000 page in depth analysis please, Strength's weaknesses, vantage points, areas to avoid etc

You may use butter in your analysis, if it has a demonstratable effect on the outcomes

:)🎅

Call in on your way back and recce the joint,

I am going to the coast of north east France, Belgium and into Germany, all three with enough trouble for a God-fearing white man already, according to the UKGSer pub. You can hardly step out of the door, it seems.

I am though much comforted (as Jane Austen might say) that the CRS seem to live in the Ibis Budget, St Omer.

We have booked, just over an hour away from Reims. Will that be far enough?
Gated, secure carpark. Roadloks.
Thinking about adding a lock with built in alarm…
R1300gs and r1250gs hp.

If only someone would nick my bloody Superduke in France…

Just got back from ur Trip, stayed in Ashford (UK), Vianden (Luxembourg), Seebach (Black Forest) and Saint Quentin (France) and no bikes stolen.

Not sure anyone would want my 19 reg 1290 Adventure, but my mates 23 plate 1250GS was left outside the Hotel in Orbey without a lock on it and was still there the next day - amazing. Although as it seemed to get very upset about being left in the rain it then threw every error message imaginable (ABS / TC / SOS / Keyless / cruise failures, a message saying if you turn it off it may not start again, indicators and lights random flashing and flickering and with Hindsight had it been nicked it would of been a blessing.....

....Amazingly despite this, it never went into Limp mode, we found a dealer within fuel range who said it had 36 issues, but would probably get us home - which it did.

Gotta love modern tech :)

I'm staying there the mid September - I'll let you know. :D

Roadlok, Abus 8006 Alarming Disc lock on the other front disc, Abus none alarming lock on the rear disc, chain and padlock.

Biketrac Tracker, Meta Defcom Alarm system and finally bike cover.

:D:D:D You'd think I was going to London !!!!

With the Roadlok fitted, you can also get a small disk lock or padlock into the small quadrant between the fork stanchion and the upper radial caliper mount, which is pretty much inaccessible by angle grinder.

With the security measures you are taking already , if it’s chained up to something immovable it’ll be aalreet.
