Remus - going brown

I have a Titanium Remus revolution can on my 1200GS - fitted last August. the tip has gone brown and won't clean up.

Has anyone else had this happen?

Is there a way to clean it or should I take it back to my dealer?

I had a Remus alloy that used to go brown in the central part - it used to come off with metal polish such as solvol autosol.

I recently experimented with Wonder Wheels on my Remus Downpipes - the golden colouring at the rear came off easily, returning the pipes to their original state

A good buff with Solvol Autosol leaves them gleaming

The area adjacent to the engine required a couple of initial applications, but now they polish up a treat very easily.

Be extremely careful if you follow this tip - WW is acid and can attack the other parts of the bike if not applied carefully. Apply neat, sparingly with a brush when the pipes are cool or cold. Leave only a few minutes then rinse off completely before polishing

Do you know what acid is in WW? I am thinking of getting the Remus headers etc but am hoping they do not brown like or as much as the OEM??

Taste's a bit like Phosphoric Acid, but not really sure

However, I would try Alu Belgom to retrieve the finish.

I'll have to defer to the other guys regarding how WW tastes!! I'm not at home right now otherwise I'd take a look at the container and tell you what the label states. I know that some other folks who posted on this site used sink cleaner quite successfully - try a search

However, just to manage your expectations - your Remus downpipes will brown just as much as the OEM pipes. Good thing is now I've discovered how to clean them, and having spent the time and effort returning them to their original state, I'm hoping they are easy to keep shiny
