I am considering replacing the forks on my xc, mainly used off roading, i beleive that KTM 640 forks are a direct fit into the xc triple clamps and obviously a new spindle and spacers would be needed, looking on e bay the 640 forks seem few and far between (plenty of supermoto) , my question is does anyone know of any other forks which fit the xc triple clamps? obviously at a reasonable cost and availability

thanks

you can always go for proper marzochhi shivers and get the axle clamps taken off your old forks, the only downside is you're left with a set of bits from the old forks rather than a set of forks you can (try) and sell. plenty of other models than the 640 used the 4357 forks, i got lucky with the 640 ones as the suspension guy said the springs which were quite heavy for the 640 would actually be fine for me and the xc.

There are quite a few sets on ebay USA at the moment. Speak to Bas @ Hyperpro ([email protected]). He generally knows what's about and you'll really need to get whatever you buy re valved and sprung for the XC anyway. Maybe Bas has some shivers from germany (brand new)? I seem to remember a job lot being bought.

Shivers from the Husky TE610 fit but some aren't 57mm clamp and are 58.4mm clamp which needs machining down. The black factory series forks are the ones to have but are almost impossible to find now. Colebatch had some but I think these may have been 50mm versions. PM him for an answer.

WP 4357MXMA is what you need. Bear in mind these have 300mm travel as opposed to 275mm for originals. You have clamp the forks with 25mm showing to maintain the ride height or raise the rear (How long are your legs?).

The only things you need to do to fit the 43mm WPs is to machine the spindle down by 1mm and buy a caliper mount bracket from Erik at Hotrod. Even the standard fork guards fit the WP forks.

If I hear of anything suitable I'll PM you

this is the info i was given

Models with 4357MXMA Forks:
2000 to 2002 - 250, 300, 380 SX, MX, EX
2000 to 2002 – 400/520 (4860 optional in 2002)
2000 to 2005 – 620/625 SX
2000 to 2005 – 640 Enduro

these MIGHT be right:

mine cost about £200, plus £150 for service and revalving, i had a new spindle made up £70 and then the bracket from eric about 40euros

i got lucky with the 640 ones as the suspension guy said the springs which were quite heavy for the 640 would actually be fine for me and the xc.

The springs fitted to both 640E and the ADV are too soft for hard use, if you fit the heavier spring the range of damping adjustment easily accommodates them. There should be no need to be looking for the double disc set up as the ADV is over braked for offroad but not sure if say a 250 exc brake would be up to stopping an XC:thumb

From DrShox (Chris Hockey) who did my forks: >>Based on your wieght and the added wieght of the bike I think your springs are fine as they are quite stiff in those forks, I can make them more comfortable tho by re valving them.

which he did and am well impressed with, so was Craig Bounds when he tried my bike out :)

the lc4e has a single disc set up i'm using the std xc wheel, brake and caliper, the ADV uses a different fork the 4860 or so i'm told

Ok, got some wp forks, Magno , do you have any details of Erik at Hotrod? any contact details. Thanks
