All we need is a bit of good weather. Metcheck shows it damp in't morning and then dry in the afternoon. Real b*gger 'cos this weekend for the last two years has been a belter.:mad:

Turn up and we'll set off and run along until people want to leave.

Take is at it comes on the day

There are a number of suitable hostelries we can stop off at and then see what we feel like doing after a suitable re-fuel.

Map attached if you want to download and get it on yer Garmin:thumb2

See you on Sunday - Junction 5 coastbound M20.

pm me if you want my mobile number..........................................

Damn ! Wouldn't mind making my yearly outing, but have just broken my clutch lever and won't have a replacement in time. Enjoy the day out everyone .....

Brother-in-Law's picnic called off due to poor weather forecast at Leeds Castle. But that sam epoor weathe rmakes a trudge up to Maidstone less attractive than it might be. Will see how I feel on the day! Will save the route and maybe meet up midway along if I don't make the start.

"If it's wet weather ride report"

As the weather was much worse today than on the previous trial runs - I did the full route this morning and its not too enjoyable in the rain - just to let you know.

Pot holes full of water so you don't know if its a puddle or not.

Puddles that could hide a pot hole.

Quite a lot of standing water in hollows in the road.

Roads much more slippery than in the dry. I know thats the case anyway but with the gravel and detritus on the road it was a bit lively in places although never close to being out of control.

If anyone is at all put off by riding narrow roads and lanes in the wet then don't put yourself a risk. It's the sort of riding I am OK with but some of the rain today was pretty hard and visibility was very low and the rain was a good lubricant to the road condition!!

Lots of early summer sights though. Lots of lambs and foals and calves and rabbits. Quite a few primroses still about, cow slips and loads of great blue bells. Farm yard smells to sear your nostrils:eek:

A few walkers and cyclists about and quite a few horses and of course cars about with pretty much no regard for bikers:augie:augie

The route from Stanford (West of Folkestone) is the worst for potholes and there are a few "T" junctions where the triangular island spreads across the road so braking has to be carefully judged.

Great views across Kent when there was no cloud or rain.

I've knocked the last lanes bit off the route - it means crossing the top of a busy road which would possibly string everybody out too much. The route will effectively end in a layby on the A249 when people can run to the A2 or M20 to get home.

Hope the weather is better tomorrow. Metcheck shows sunny and cloudy - so it may be OK for all takers:thumb2:thumb2

We can stop for breakfast or run on to lunch break - feedback tomorrow at pre-ride brifing please.

See you down there:thumb2:thumb2

Have you tried......

how do I save the route into the Garmin 550?

Cheers

When you open the link, save the route to your computer, attach your 550 to the computer and load it across. Should work.

Try that or search on the GPS section or post the question there - some clever b*gger will put you right:thumb2:thumb2

Apologies I didn't make it today, hope that those who did make it had a great time and a safe ride....

Another acknowledgment and thanks to woodsie for the amount of work he's put in again.

Looking forward to hearing the detail... :thumb

Woodsie,

Thanks for a great ride out. Whens the next one ?

MGJ

Woodsie,

Great ride with some interesting little lanes. Good to see the GS get some dirt on it :-)

Cant wait for the next one......

Ed

Woodsie

+2 :thumb2 for the ride out today. My first, and def not my last, had a cracking time, thanks for your time /effort in planning & organising:clap

A few wobbles on the loose stuff, bike covered in filth, good bunch of folk & a bloody great smile on my face...that was until I spent the last 2.5 hours cleaning it!!!!!!:blast

Bounce :bounce1

Thanks for organising a great route (the first half at least!), Woodsie.

I'd been on the bike since 08:00, needed breakfast and a smoke, my petrol light came on just as we got to Lympne, and we were only about ten miles from home. So I cut and ran!

Great route up until that point, though. I knew the roads across the Marsh, but the lanes around Maidstone were all new to me. That's the furthest I've ridden my 650 in a day and I have to say that with the Airhawk seat on, it's remarkably comfortable.

Sorry I didn't get the chance to chat to you all at a break. Maybe I'll organise a trip around Coastal SE Kent before too long...

Robin.

Sorry we had to "cut 'n' run" too

Woodsie,

Great route. Unfortunately me and Mrs Brenchlyhibs needed a "comfort break" around midday so we dived off when you crossed the A251 just south of Faversham. There seemed to be a number of the group making a detour at that location then turning back - I hope it wasn't our manoeuvre that confused them (we did wait until we thought all the bikes had passed us!).

We ended up in Herne Bay for a hot drink and a bun. Later on the way back we caught up with an RT and a GS on the Challock road then onto the A20 northbound - it wasn't you was it??

We hope to join you for the next run out but, as a favour to my bladder ( :rob ), can you factor in a break every couple of hours?? I should have made a note of the lunchtime destination as we'd have liked to have caught up and chatted with you all. Hopefully next time!

Thanks again!

Glad people enjoyed the day

I was amazed to see everyone in the morning - I thougtht that the weather and my report from the previous day may have kept some away.

19 started the ride and I was aware that 2 left during the ride but only 12 were at the lunch stop - which was in fact only a coffee and warm stop in the end.

Everything ran well - except some confusion at a "drop-off" where some dropped off and went their own way - sorry about that and hope you weren't stuck in the "Kent triangle".

Lesson for me - comfort breaks - sorry for any inconvenience caused:augie:augie

Everyone kept in good distance and even a police helicopter seemed to circle and have a looksee at the line of lights proceeding through Chilham :augie:augie

The weather was the only bad thing - not as bad as Saturday and the roads were no comparrison to the terrible conditions so thanks to everyone for turning out. A bit of sun would have made the whole event more enjoyable but we have to take that bit as it comes.

Next one will be - most likely - in July for a Sunday run out for a bit of lunch somewhere.

Keep your eyes open:thumb2:thumb2
