I have used Hein Gericke Gore-Tex gear in the past, and although it keeps you dry in heavy rain, the outer cordura saturates. Now I have went down the route of the BMW Air suit with a 2 piece light waterproof. Hopefully good in warm / wet weather..

I think you will find that this happens with all Goretex & Cordura kit that is not reproofed occasionally but especially after cleaning/washing. Reproofing allows the Cordura to resist the water and it flows straight off the material just like it did when new.

Vents in Streetguard 3

I have a Streetguard 3 too but the problem is that there are no vents in either the jacket or the trousers and it's too hot for high temps despite BMW's claims about reflective technology in the material. I have a Rallye jacket for hot weather riding which has copious vents but it's not waterproof without the liner of course. I'm not sure there is any riding gear available that will be comfortable 0deg and 35deg and yet still be waterproof

Strange. I have a SG3 jacket and it has large underarm vents that work very well. I used it in the Picos in the high 30's and it was great. Only ever got hot when off the bike. I used it with RP3 trousers which also have good vents.

Cheaper kit option

I use Triumph (Triple Collection) jackets bought off ebay much cheaper than anything new. The best ones are with the chequered shoulders (like a chequered flag, with the white bits reflective material), in my experience. They come with a zip in fleece and full armour. I came off at about 60 in one (just sliding down the road - didn't hit anything luckily) with very little damage and I've found then completely waterproof. The sizing is quite generous. Some of them don't have poppers on the front flap over the zip in the section between the belt and the collarbone, but I had some diy ones also off ebay which I added (might have been okay anyway - they were designed like that). They come in black, green, yellow, blue... You just need to be bothered to keep a watch. Last one cost me £20 plus postage, without an inner fleece, but I had one from another jacket.

I go with the HEIN GERICKE kit, works for me through our miserable British winters. Colours might be a bit drab but at least I'm warm and dry.

I find that a £35 HyViz oversuit is worth the trouble of struggling into if it is really wet.

Get yourself a Rukka - fantastic bit of kit, expensive but it lasts for years and the aftersales if anything goes wrong is absolutely first class.

So, the majority (within the 1200 section at least) seem to favour Rukka kit. Pricey but good.

Rukka or Twat suits seem to be the choice of every well-heeled Tosser. "expensive but worth it" is fine if you have that kind on money in the first place I suppose. As long as you don't mind paying a fortune to be a GS clone.

Having been down the road at 60mph in my twat suit I can vouch for its protection which isn't to say a suit costing half the price wouldn't have performed just as well......

...thing is I wouldn't want to take the risk to find out it didn't

To escape the GS clone badge I replaced it with a Rukka which seems as good if not better although I may be tempted by a RP3 jacket in light grey if one came up at the right price...........

Ive had Streetguard 2 and 2a (they changed the design as the reflective paint came off) and just brought SG3 suit of Ebay BN for £570. I swear by it and I ride every day in all weathers. If its raining when I set off (pouring) then I put a plastic oversuit on over the top of my SG. After hours in heavy rain, Ive found it leaks If I dont do that! Also, someone has said in the previous replies- Jackets that soak the rain feel very cold in the winter when its cold anyway. They also creat a large puddle drip-drying when you getb to your destination!
For realy cold spelts- I put my Gerbing under jacket on beneath the SG and with the thermostat that Ive put back on for the winter, I can endure most weathers.
If you ride all year for hours- the set-up gets my recomendation. Ive been riding 100 miles a day min for about 8 years now. Sometimes 300.
