Road noise. Newbie requires info

Please bear with me if I've posted in the wrong section or repeated a topic you've all done to death........I'm new on here!

I bought a R1250GSA 2019 with approx 3000miles which "the more I ride the more I love". If I have to pick a fault with the bike it would have to be (I presume) the road noise. I'm pretty sure it is road noise as on certain types of tarmac the noise is vastly reduced or seems to disappear. The bike is fitted with Bridgestone Battlax Adventure tyres, I wonder if ...........

others have experienced similar issues?
Is it the type of tyre?
Is there something else I'm missing?

They all do it.
Shape of beak/front fairing amplifies the noise.

I'm led to believe Anakee tyres are even noisier

Just check your tyre pressures

Yep, tyre noise, happens with various brands and models of tyres

Doesn’t bother me in the slightest, some folks it does

Welcome to the forum. I am also relatively new having transited from a 2018 K1600 GTL to a new 2021 GSA last year. The bike came with Michelin Anakee's from the dealer. They were horribly noisy. After some research and on the recommendation of my dealer I fitted Metzeler Tourance Next. They are not perfect but much, much quieter. I will try the Tourance Next 2's or the newly available Dunlop RS4's in the Spring.

One of my next "tries" was the tyre pressure Olde Coney, I have them set at the recommended book pressures at present but did read somewhere on here that 32/36lbs seems to work ok.

As far as tyres are concerned that was a consideration BigT. On my previous bike (f800gs) I had Metzellers and really liked them, so that's an option once these have worn down.

Yup, there`s amplified tyre noise to consdier as already mentioned - to sling my hat in the ring could I suggest ear protection?

bit hypocritical (as I`m ex Artillery and therefor deaf as a post ) but for sure ear protection may help with tyre noise but will deffo help with many other things - alertness, not tiring from high levels of noise on long rides etc etc.

A41s should be reasonably quiet, compared with some more off-road oriented options. Simple foam earplugs (-35dB) should render this barely discernible.

If it 'sings' more in the corners, it's often a sign of cupping (aka scalloping) setting in - easy enough to check by just running your hand over the treaded area.

Uneven tread block wear like this can be due to tyre pressures, or simply a rider who pushes the front hard.

I’m on the 5th set of all different tyres on my 2019 1250GSA. Conti TA 3 is the quietest tyre for me so far. Next best was the Michelin Pilot Road 4 Trail.

i Have the same issue with the same tyres on my new 1250 GSA, I traded my 2019 1200GSA in with Tourance neXt tyres on it and they are much quieter then the Battlax tyres. I will wear the Bridgestones out then put Tourance next on.

Mine came with Anakee's (2021 R1250GS) and I already purchased Michelin Road 6 front and rear but as the bike has only 6000 miles I'm waiting to ware Anakee's a bit more and then will fit Road 6. I had great experience with Michelin Pilot Road 3 and 4 on my previous bikes.

The trouble with ear plugs is for me they block out all the sound….sound that I need to block out all the sound of bloody tinnitus!

When I bought my bike it had Battlax A40 on, it was very noisy between 40mph and 78mph and then quieter till about 80pmh and then started again. dropping 2 psi on the front helped a bit. Then tried the Tourance Next which was a bit better but tyres didn't last long. Now on a new set of Avon Trailrider but not done any riding yet. Seems that dropping 2psi helped me a bit and also earplugs.
