Hi Ronnie, I just tried to call you and pass on our deepest sympathies from myself and Tsetska after seeing this thread. Dreadful experience for all the family and it is difficult to find words to express feelings at such times.

I read your words here and am encouraged and impressed as always at the way your stoicism is shining through.

We just pray that you will feel some comfort from the genuine wishes expressed here and also of course from the God of all comfort.

Please convey our deepest sympathies to your father, sister, Christine and the family circle.

Sorry I missed your call Deano. I'll catch you over the weekend when I return home.

My mums service was really nice and she got a great send off from the German part of her life. Her ashes will be scattered up Glenshee in the near future, so she'll finally be home.

Jockgrim only has a population of a few thousand but I bet in its 800 year history, my mum is the only person ever to have had the skirl of the bagpipes at their funeral. I've never seen so many people with tears in their eyes at that moment.

We fly home today. It's going to be a hard one visiting my old man and saying Cheerio on our way to the airport. I can't help feeling that I'm abandoning him. Daft I know...:blast
 
Haven't been on the site for ages, don't own a GS any more. First part of the forum I looked at was the Scottish one and I spotted this thread. Ronnie, we only met for the Pink Way Round but I feel I know you better than that through your posts. Can I , please, offer you my sincere sympathy for your loss. You captured the essence of your parents (who I, of course, don't know) and you describe a couple I wish I'd met. The lovely memories you have of your mum will certainly always bring a smile, if not a laugh, for you. You described your current situation so powerfully that I'm far from ashamed to tell you that I was moved to tears for you, your family and especially for your dad (who sounds like a magic auld boy). I hope he can recover some more.

Best wishes Ronno and condolences about your mum, been there myself recently.....the auld fella sounds like a real battler and I'm sure he'll enjoy a wee break and a few drams in fife in the summer:thumb
 
My sister phoned me tonight to say my dad was eating some soup today and is a good bit better. Unfortunately, he doesn't remember me, Christine or my daughter Lynsey being there. Maybe his memory will get better in a few days. The worry right now is that if that's the case then he won't remember me telling him about my mum. I think my sis will tell him tomorrow. She just couldn't do it today.

I really do have some hope to have a dram with him again :jager

Sad news mate, my thoughts are with you, christine and your family. Incredible story about yer dad, what a tough boot he is, eh.

Just had an amazing phone call from Germany. My dad is out of intensive care and back in a normal ward. He's got his speech and memory back. The doc told my sister tonight that he's an amazing old man and that the doc would have given odds of a million to one of this recovery two weeks ago. I'm almost speechless masel. Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes folks. They seem to have worked :clap:clap:clap
