Rukka Gobi

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience of the Rukka Gobi jacket and Unit trousers.

Intended use is for MCC trials, not too serious trail riding and overlanding (I don't want much do I?).

I've not quite given up chasing the mythical suit that works well year-round (need for a heated vest in winter recognised) both on the road and on easy trails, and I had my sights set on a Rukka Allroad jacket and trousers.

It now appears that after saving up, the Allroad is not available anymore and the Gobi looks like a replacement. However, I can't find any sign of matching Gobi trousers so I was wondering if the Unit trousers would be suitable.

The other option I'm considering is the Kalahari.

Opinions and advice welcome.

I was thinking the same thing, but missed the great Allroad sale last winter. The Gobi isn't actually imported into the UK so you'd have to buy as a leap of faith.

The obvious alternative is the Kalahari....which is available in the UK, although normally on request from most dealers.

The other less obvious alternative is the Armas suit...I got one last year and can't recommend it enough.
The jacket, along with my Unit trousers, have withstood extremes of temperatures and torrential rains without ever letting me down, in fact only ever excelling.

Don't forget Bikerland De when it comes to buying Rukka gear. Even with the pound down in its boots against the Euro you can save a fortune on Rukka gear.

There is also a company called Moto Central who are based in Nuneaton who claim they will match any price on Rukka clothing worldwide.

..although the Allroad is no longer available, it has been replaced with the Air-road.
I've tried that on..seemed a nice jacket, but was win over by the Armas

Dainese: I'm wondering if the Airoad is really a replacement for the Allroad, as I though the Airoad seems to be more for warmer climates and I thought the Allroad was year round but not sure on this. Any thoughts?

Bob: I was going to buy via Biker Land in de due to the good reports I've read of them on here.

PS: The Ruby helmets sold by moto central look really nice - carbon fibre etc. But the price, and a bit too nice to use on the trails?

Hi Ian,

The AiRoad seemed to land somewhere in the middle...a road biased jacket, with 'enduro' styling. But I may be wrong?

I sort of take any 'triple layer' jacket as being for hotter climates, cos to be honest I can't see many occassions you'll get not wanting to keep warm in this country, even on a sunny ride, and even fewer when being 100% waterproof isn't likely to be necessary. That's why I think the bonded jackets are so much better..the others are more a compromise.

If I went to Morroco I'd probably get a Kalahari jacket and trousers for that reason....I'd risk the downpours on the way, but it'd come into it's own once there.
I'd say the AiRoad would probably fall into that catorgary too.
Having said that I'm sure it would be a competent jacket for the UK too, as it seemed more 'bulkier' than the kalahari.

The best thing to do is get your local dealer to get your sizes in to try on all the suits in the running (a bit unethical I admit if you then buy from Germany) but my dealer gave me a 10% discount...and with all the effort they put in, and the opportunity to try on all the suits I was concidering, in all the size possibilities, it was well worth the slightly higher price paid....plus you get the UK warranty.

The UK warranty is the same as the European one on Rukka clothing. It has been said within the forum that Rukka UK will deal with warranty claims on clothing bought outside the UK.

I've never had to claim on the warranty...but from what I've read on here rukka UK are reluctant to honour claims on foreign bought items...although I also gather they are obliged to do so if pushed....but not sure if that's the case?

Could be the wrong time to find out, if something went wrong.

I can vouch for Moto Central. They matched Bikerland's prices on a pair of unit trousers and an Athos jacket. Came to £610. I was going to order from bikeralnd based on the sizes of my old gear but i went over to Nuneaton for a day out. Im glad idid, i needed bigger sizes in both lol. The fella there was really helpful, i wish i could remember his name.

Hi all, we stock Rukka and the Kalahari, but to clear warranty issues, the distributor for Rukka in the UK, will not honour warranty claims for items bought outsdide of the UK.

No, the Airoad is not a replacement for the Allroad. I saw one just today at my dealer's, and it's knitted cordura, which means that it's lighter and not as windproof as I think the Allroad was (never owned one.) In fact, I think the Gobi would be the replacement for the Airoad, but it has a removable Gore-tex liner with Outlast technology instead of the bonded Gore-tex membrane. So, no removable thermal lining.

I have bought from Biker Land, and they are very serious and professional. And their prices are unbeatable. At least seen from here in America, where Rukka is rare and very expensive. I have just ordered a Gobi jacket from them.
