Satnav’s, yes or no???

Plus one on quadlock. Anti vibration mount, waterproof phone and wireless charging. Ideally bluetooth connected to a headset. That way voice prompts can be heard if sunshine is making the screen hard to read, also good if traffic conditions are making it difficult to look at the screen.
Then use mra to plan routes and tomtom app.
Fraction of the cost of whacky Garmin units orBMW branded stuff.

Also, if you want a simple point a to point b route, the tomtom app will make better choices than a crazy garmin. It also live, so if roads are closed, it will divert automatically.

My set up now is quadlock mounted on the new waterproof wireless charging unit mounted on WunderLINQ system. Full control of the phone using the wheel and only one connection from phone to head set, simple.

Garmin also has that function .

Not on the more basic 395lm.
I will review things if I like the r1300gs, after a test ride. In the meantime the quadlock and app are working well.
It does on the 6 not sure about the 395 .
It was the same on the XT unit I had on the V4s .

Unless of course it rains. Which it does quite a lot. iPhones don’t like rain.

Most phones now are waterproof, I’ve never had an issue using iPhones, they don’t like water in the charging port I agree so I’ve switched to wireless so no issues in the aqua department now.

My XR certainly doesn’t like rain. It also doesn’t like to get too hot. As my lad found out whilst using it as a sat nav in Norway in August. I, like you will need to buy a anti vibration, wireless charger. It’s so much easier with my waterproof, vibration proof, heat proof 10 year old zumo 660. Oh well. That’s progress!!

Was in Germany this year in the heat wave, never had an issue, as long as you don’t leave your phone in direct sunlight which you shouldn’t do anyway I haven’t found an issue.
I agree older satnavs are bombproof but they are also slow compared to a phone for searching and inputting and navigating. I don’t like clutter so one item that does everything works for me, it’s always charged and does everything I need without having two things, but you are then putting all your eggs in one basket, you pay your money and take your choice.

Don’t use anti vibration mount, had an iPhone 11 Pro for 4 years and never had in issue and my bike is rallied off road and the phone is used as an ico. From the 11 onwards they have a closed loop stability system for image stabilisation, this is way more robust than previous models, even though apple warned about it that are covering their arses.

I would expect a device whos sole purpose was to help navigate whilst it sat outside to be waterproof...It has one job and lets be honest just looking at the forums Garmin STILL can't get even the basics right despite bring out their new XT2.
I mean I don't see Garmin or TomTom being adopted by ANY car maker....even motorcycles are now switching Android Auto/Apple Car play because Garmin and TomTom aren't able to come even close to Google Maps

Thats Progress

Progress maybe but I cannot plot routes on those things you’re talking about. I can plot routes on Basecamp as it is very user friendly and I can wander off route and back on it at will. Garmin have never got it right since the Zumo 660. I have Apple car play in my Ranger. I don’t really see any use for it. I have Spotify for music, the car has a built in sat nav. Google maps is useless for plotting routes as one can only have about 10 waypoints without having to start another route.
No thanks, I’ll stick with what works for me.

I plot on basecamp, or google maps and it goes straight to the phone, simple

1000000% with you there . I plan not let the app decide where I go . I wander because I choose to , but I still have the option using my Garmin . In my van yes , perfect with phones or the apple CarPlay as I just want to A to B .
I have never been able( ask posted before) to wander , but not had a constructive answer , only phones are easier .

But your phone with recalculation will send you where it thinks you want to go , I pulled my hair out with phones . The Garmin (GPS) just works as an aid not a master .

You just haven't learnt how to use it fella.

I've plotted a route to Bosnia from the UK and added fuel stops etc and possible stops, fuel stops, hotels, bike garages.
Broken the routes into different days for ease of adjustment and then I can either email to myself, send to whatever device I intend to use as its saved to my Google profile.
I then just focus on that days ride where it will give me live traffic (not Garmin Live which is hours old but actual live traffic).

I will be using both my phone and will be trialling a 9 inch tablet which I use to use in my campervan as a satnav as the screen is nice and big.

I can even send the route to you if you like?

Nope, doesn’t happen, It did when I tried an off road route so now I just load the track for that.

You do realise you can just ignore it and carry on, it will always just route you to the destination you have selected so impossible to get lost.
No it takes me to the point I wish to travel to by the fastest route I want taking into consideration of traffic and road closures and accidents etc It will even avoid motorways or tolls or ferrys etc depending on what I select.
I don't ride around in circles I go from A-B and sometimes to a C which again can easily be planned
Best bit its free
No lifetime maps waffle
...street view....
Gives me alternatives to the route it suggests
offline maps.
voice activated when I have by Sena on so I can find something quickly without stopping or having to touch the screen or without losing my current route.
Play music in the background
Speed camera alerts (even in France)
You can add external KMZ KML files (converted free online from gpx)
ITS FREE and is always there no matter what phone I swap to (or tablet)

Missing the point , I have researched the routes before and wish to travel that route , not the Sat Nav version .
