I use an iPhone on quad lock with vibration damper. Can’t see why anyone would need anything else
Garmin also has that function .Plus one on quadlock. Anti vibration mount, waterproof phone and wireless charging. Ideally bluetooth connected to a headset. That way voice prompts can be heard if sunshine is making the screen hard to read, also good if traffic conditions are making it difficult to look at the screen.
Then use mra to plan routes and tomtom app.
Fraction of the cost of whacky Garmin units orBMW branded stuff.
Also, if you want a simple point a to point b route, the tomtom app will make better choices than a crazy garmin. It also live, so if roads are closed, it will divert automatically.
Not on the more basic 395lm.Garmin also has that function .
It does on the 6 not sure about the 395 .Not on the more basic 395lm.
I will review things if I like the r1300gs, after a test ride. In the meantime the quadlock and app are working well.
Unless of course it rains. Which it does quite a lot. iPhones don’t like rain.I use an iPhone on quad lock with vibration damper. Can’t see why anyone would need anything else

My XR certainly doesn’t like rain. It also doesn’t like to get too hot. As my lad found out whilst using it as a sat nav in Norway in August. I, like you will need to buy a anti vibration, wireless charger. It’s so much easier with my waterproof, vibration proof, heat proof 10 year old zumo 660. Oh well. That’s progress!!Most phones now are waterproof, I’ve never had an issue using iPhones, they don’t like water in the charging port I agree so I’ve switched to wireless so no issues in the aqua department now.
I would expect a device whos sole purpose was to help navigate whilst it sat outside to be waterproof...It has one job and lets be honest just looking at the forums Garmin STILL can't get even the basics right despite bring out their new XT2.My XR certainly doesn’t like rain. Progress maybe but I cannot plot routes on those things you’re talking about. I can plot routes on Basecamp as it is very user friendly and I can wander off route and back on it at will. Garmin have never got it right since the Zumo 660. I have Apple car play in my Ranger. I don’t really see any use for it. I have Spotify for music, the car has a built in sat nav. Google maps is useless for plotting routes as one can only have about 10 waypoints without having to start another route.I would expect a device whos sole purpose was to help navigate whilst it sat outside to be waterproof...It has one job and lets be honest just looking at the forums Garmin STILL can't get even the basics right despite bring out their new XT2.
I mean I don't see Garmin or TomTom being adopted by ANY car maker....even motorcycles are now switching Android Auto/Apple Car play because Garmin and TomTom aren't able to come even close to Google Maps
Thats Progress
1000000% with you there . I plan not let the app decide where I go . I wander because I choose to , but I still have the option using my Garmin . In my van yes , perfect with phones or the apple CarPlay as I just want to A to B .Progress maybe but I cannot plot routes on those things you’re talking about. No thanks, I’ll stick with what works for me.
But your phone with recalculation will send you where it thinks you want to go , I pulled my hair out with phones . The Garmin (GPS) just works as an aid not a master .I plot on basecamp, or google maps and it goes straight to the phone, simple
You just haven't learnt how to use it fella.Progress maybe but I cannot plot routes on those things you’re talking about. Missing the point , I have researched the routes before and wish to travel that route , not the Sat Nav version .You do realise you can just ignore it and carry on, it will always just route you to the destination you have selected so impossible to get lost.
No it takes me to the point I wish to travel to by the fastest route I want taking into consideration of traffic and road closures and accidents etc It will even avoid motorways or tolls or ferrys etc depending on what I select.
I don't ride around in circles I go from A-B and sometimes to a C which again can easily be planned
