We headed up north last Friday to AE forest Dumfries and Galloway for the first round of the SDA championship. A couple of his mates were riding so we thought we’d have a look at it and see how we got on.
Got there in the plywood palace Friday evening and everything seemed well organised and friendly unlike the chaos of Rheola a few weeks ago.
Woke up to a very cold and frosty Saturday morning and was pleased to have gone in the motorhome with our own heat source and not in tents like some poor souls.
Practice on Saturday went well with only a minor off on one run but he got seven uplifts which were running smoothly despite the amount of competitors.
Got a couple of practice runs on Sunday morning and he was looking forward to the race runs.
Unfortunately he tucked the front and went down on run one and clipped a tree on run two but he picked himself up ad finished both runs with only scrapes and bruises.
The pace is definitely there but he needs to calm down a bit and stay on it for the race runs which is something that will come with experience. This was only his second national event and seventh race in total so he’s competing against lads who have done over fifty events so we called the weekend a success despite a couple of hiccups.

He’s on the reserve list for the next round at Fort William because he didn’t have any points from last season and it’s always a popular event so will have to wait and see if he gets on for that one.

The drop down the escalator at the finish was a lot steeper than it looks. The elite guys were firing it off the top and landing just before it flattened out 😳
