Hello GS'ers. I've only had my 1150GS for about 4 weeks and have found a problem when riding in the dark. The headlights seem to reflect up the screen, especially on main beam, and when going round a corner the lean angle makes it even worse and really affects vision.

I've got a touratech perspex light guide fitted which may be responsible for reflecting light back?

Does anyone else have this problem?
Does anyone know of a shroud or cover you can buy to stop the light being reflected back?

Cheers
Paul

cut the mounts down, and tuck the TT guard under the silver panel above the lights.
i can give you the measurement later if you want.

better yet, throw it away :D

ps. if anyone wants one after that glowing recommendation, i've got one pre modded FS.

I'll try cutting it down. If you've got the measurements that would be handy.

The guard came with the bike and i've kept it on as the roads I use have a lot of stones on in winter.

I was thinking of fitting a HID light kit but didn't want to do this till i'd sorted out the reflection as I think it would blind me. :D

spacers are 36mm long

bolts are 52mm to allow for a couple of washers, sandwiching an O ring, to allow the lens to tilt nicely.

little rubber button stuck top centre of lens to space it from the lamps.

sounds very complicated now i've written it down

Yup - that's the answer. I fitted one of those that came with a bundle of other stuff, and had exactly the same problem till I moved it nearer the lights.

You might want to increase the gap back...

That could reduce the airflow over your headlight lens making for inefficient heat removal which is likely to cook your light bulbs quicker.

For those with the Touratech perspex mount, here is a neat solution:

who do a bespoke piece which clips on neatly over the top edge of the perspex curing the glare problem.

ps. i had no bulbs blow in the 6K miles i had the modified perspex item fitted.

Thanks for the advice. I've taken light guard off and this has fixed the reflection in my screen and eyes. Might consider one of those steel guards.

Bert - that shoud looks very chunky (good idea though)

Agreed - with all that beak pushing airflow up there, I can't see it's a problem on an 1150.

Headlamp guard

This may be the answer to the light reflection problem. Any one seen one in the plastic. Seems to fit under the lamp/instrument cover.

In 2 words : it works :thumb

It makes you wonder though. How can Touratech design and sell something which has a huge flaw? Did they not test it in the dark?

Ted - That light protector picture you post looks good - anyone know who makes it?
