Decided to take pity on my poor arse and invest in a decent seat before venturing off to Morocco in August:JB...only question is where are the cheapest seats available from? NN, sportouring, ?,?......

Well this was my experience! I've been looking on ebay casually for a long time now and used Sargent seats don't come up often and they are not that much cheaper to buy second hand because they are in demand which pushes the price up. If I was buying I would buy new!

Lastly, having rode 800 miles on one when I did a trip round wales this year I decided it wasn't for me. I still had a sore bum, didn't like the all black seats and there wasn't much benefit from spending £560 for a pair of seats to match!

For me I like the red / black original look, and I mix my riding with and without the use of a Airhawk cushion which helps!

I insist on thanking you for your research on my behalf......:bow.....but as I suspected not much in it anywhere...will give sportouring a call as I've had good service and gear from them over the years...thanks again...:bow

Spouttouring rocks. Have dealt with them and I can only praise their service.:bounce1

Keep the original, save a fortune, and buy an Airhawk :thumb

That's OK for lanky guys like you, but those of us with short legs may struggle with the extra height of an Airhawk :P

If you can pick up a s/h Sargent seat you'll be able to sell it for the same price when you change the bike :thumb2

I tried three different ways to make my 12GS more comfortable. The first was I changed the standard seat for BM's own taller one, much like the Adventure seat with deeper padding. Didn't work. Then I bought an AirHawk. It was good, but still not perfect. I found it difficult to get the amount of air exactly right in it, but the biggest drawback was leaving it on the bike. I always worried about coming back to no AirHawk. It was alright if I had my topbox on so I could stow it, but even then that meant undoing the straps holding it on but all the faffing about was annoying. So solution number three was the Sargent. Perfect.
Ok, some don't get on with them, but they would be in the minority and as Sven says, you can always sell them for near what you paid in the first place.

My experiences...
1 - Standards seats 2hrs to complete mental breakdown and close to tears
2 - Sargent seats 3hrs to significant discomfort
3 - Sargent + Airhawk 3.5 hrs - discomfort
4 - Sargent + Airhawk + Sheepskin 4hrs absolute max.... (being 6'2" helps now...!)

Bottom line (sic) is that this remains the most uncomfortable bike I have ever ridden. I can spend 8 hrs on a Blade, Bird, VFR, K1300S etc etc.

So why do I continue with this love-hate relationship? A different answer depending on how long I've been on it! All you can do with the suggested changes is move the point of discomfort, live with that and you're sorted (and your wallet emptied!) :)

The other option is get a GOOD seat repairer to redo your original seat with better quality foam and reshape it a la corbin or Sergeant.... i can recommend Digger seats in S wales
about 85 quid for a v good job

and no i am not connected to him or the firm.... just a customer:bounce1

and as if by magic, I've got one I don't use and I'm thinking of selling. Yours for the princely sum of £200 + p&P. If you're interested I'll post some pictures.

So what size petrol tank on the 'blade enables you to keep going for eight hours

I had Custom Seats in Coventry sort mine (google them). They fitted something called gelastic. It's not a gel it's like a rubber honeycomb. Seat looks no different but comfort much improved. £90 from memory!
