Right i had my 1st service on Saturday, bikes done. 850 miles however this was not at my normal place (they were fully booked) so thought I'd stay local.

Anyway got there at 9:15am and it was 1:30pm when they finished ! Said they were having problems with a customers bike, Paid up and rd 6-7 miles home, once home looked at the invoice and noted there were no charge for the fd oil change.

the service schedule had been ticked for fd change completed !

I checked the vin no's on the invoice and the schedule and they don match mine !

But the diagnostic printout does have the correct vin no.

On further inspection, i mark all service fasteners im a little ocd and i trust no one to touch my bikes, so i no if they have been removed and the rear fd had not been touched, i than remove the oil for inspection taking into account this should be new oil and clean as its only done 7 miles max from service.

This is what comes out .

The fd sump plug is full of black Swalf paste and not been touched .

I was told by my dealer when I had my first service that they don't change the final drive oil! Not sure about your vin discrepancy.

My first service ( not a LC I grant ) they did final drive oil change, I watched him do it !!!

Looks like a workshop in a complete mess to me!! As you live in Derbyshire, as do I, and went local you need to name and shame! I think I can guess as I have just bought my GS from a local dealer and was less than impressed with its presentation and had to make a complaint regarding the fact that the brakes had not even been checked prior to my collecting it. There was about 1 mm on the rear pads on a 4 month old bike, and all the calipers were dry and corroded inside. The bike had a 6000 mile service, allegedly, as well as a PDI inspection, and the wheels had been off for new tyres, so plenty of opportunity to spot the pad wear. I had a meeting with the general manager, amongst others, and they appeared genuinely horrified, but if this is the same place there's clearly a major problem and I will avoid them in future.

I would certainly not want to leave this in till 6k, its seriously shitty looks contaminated and really smells of heavily worked oils.

If its not changed as per the service schedule for the 600 mile, why tick the changed fd oil !

No naming and shamming yet they have a right to defend themselves as i could be barking up the wrong tree.

Lind in norwich did the same to my bike, ticked the box but definitely didn't change the oil.
I'm glad I spent a lazy afternoon giving it a once over when I bought it.
Bet your glad too.

Sorry to say it looks like you have been. I'd be straight back in there with the bike myself and confront them with it.

Tooled up, no doubt. But, wait.....

Georgeeboi may be right about the final drive on reflection.

Phew, that could have got nasty for a moment.

In passing, Ding-dong, is that your contact phone number?

I changed my own oil and final drive at 600 miles and the final drive oil was as black as your hat, my dealer was fully booked so I purchased every thing they said I needed for the first service, including the FD oil,

I trust my local dealer (Oxford) and have had work done by them with no issues or worries. But doing the service my self gave me the comfort of knowing it had definitely been done
Also as I purchased all I needed from the dealer I was assured that my warranty would not be affected.

It's not good when you entrust your expensive pride and joy to dealers or in-dependants to find you have been conned. Ok so you won't use them again but there are people that are completely unaware of these rouges so I say name and shame.

PS I pick up my new GSA today and I shall be doing the oil services on that too

Take the evidence to the Office of Fair Trading - they deserve to be prosecuted

Tooled up yes, with the incorrect paperwork and my bike so they could either correct it or explain themselves; whether or not the final drive oil should have been changed.

Just checked out my 600ml service invoice and it appears I had a rear drive oil change (if Syntrax 75/90 is rear drive oil?).

I seem to remember from a previous post that you work for BMW?

I'm intrigued to know if it was someone at work who told you that doing your own servicing would not void your warranty or was it someone at NOG?

Did you stamp your own service book?
