The OP did say he'll keep his bike for 10 years until retirement. That was only 4 years ago so might be checking this for info on his 36K service before taking early retirement next year.
Mine always goes to the dealer for servicing. People love to see a nice neat row of BMW stamps in the book when they buy. Plus the dealer services my bike whilst I'm at work, gives me a nice new something to get there and back and I still have my weekend to carry shopping in from the car, clean the gutters etc. I polish the outside and pour fuel in the top. As for the innards - I'm pretty sure it's not full of squirrels but that's about it. Oh, I'll talk crap about double overhead whatnots and valve clearing all day long but ask me to point one out in traffic and I'll pick a number 9 bus every time. Motorcyclist = Good Mechanic hasn't been true for a long time. If you haven't got a clue it won't help (and certainly wont save money) to pretend that you do.
can i use a deck chair or a milking stool maybe????
