I noticed what appeared to be some oil misting towards the bottom of the engine casings when I washed the bike the other day (first time since before I went on holiday at the end of May, so the engine was pretty mucky :blush)

I went for a blast tonight and there’s definitely a slight leak from a bolt just beneath the oil filter. Is this another drain plug or a fixing for an internal component like the oil pump? Whatever it is, it needs a new sealing washer.

Looks like it’s the oil pressure control valve, so it just needs a new crush washer hopefully

Or has not been torqued to spec

Quite possibly, but the sump guard and possibly the headers will need to come off to sort it, so I’ll let the dealers sort it under warranty. Hopefully Allen Jefferies won’t tell me to take it back to Williams...

I’m new to Boxer engines but wondered, if it’s an Oil Pressure Control Valve, is it supposed to vent out?

I would imagine it would allow excess oil pressure to bleed straight back to the sump.

give it a tweak.. we go OTT on torque! don't you have a bit that would go in there and put a small spanner on it.. quick loosen off and back to where it was plus 5 deg... all fixed ;)

There is no venting to the outside, so this area is supposed to be bone dry..

Like suggested above, it's a case for the dealer.

It’s a simple repair, but I’m not going to buy a workshop manual, ball-ended torx bits etc. when it’s a three month old £16k bike under warranty with a dealer 15 minutes from the office :thumb

Says El Cheapo, how many new bikes from the dealers JB.............;)

Lots...

Never buy a new model of owt, let someone else be the test mules for a new model

Bought plenty over the years, including new cars in very recent times...................however I always buy the very last of the outgoing models, once the new model has been launched

That way, any glitches have been fixed or are well publicised and the dealers/manufacturers want to clear old stock at mahoosive discounts too......so win-win

I am not that vain that I need to be seen riding/driving a new model to make me feel good

I may make an exception for the new T7, however I might buy one that a new bod has bought, fallen out with in short order and grab a bargain low mileage one in 2020..............who knows?

There smugbob, does that answer your question?

Far to much detail........:D

This is the same component in the same location as the first 2013 GS LC, so should be well proven after nearly 7 years. It’s just a crush washer that hasn’t been torqued correctly, not a major failure (unless it fully unscrewed).

Anyway, it’s now booked into AJ’s to be sorted next Friday :beerjug:
