Small hole mystery

I guess that it doesn't cause a problem if water gets in the hole when washing the bike?

I took it to the dealers today!

You are correct it sounds like that it is the same system. They did say BMW had told them on the course that if the seal went it would dump loads of oil.
so it does look like a pressurisation problem! :blast as it has forced the foam filter out and is weeping!:(

So it is booked in on saturday for them to look at next week! :nenau

Fuck:eek, I wonder if my leak was from the same place, thou I had no foam around that hole or sign of any oil . Mind you is such a thin oil ( almost like gun oil ) that it would clear off the hot engine.

It is oil for sure! As it brown and sticky :augie

Zultan the reason my bike failed after 59 miles was the back brake caught fire!:blast but yes PM me.

Good old reliable BMW:nenau

Thank you for the replies.:thumb2 Lets see what the dealer has to say tomorrow!

I can't send you a PM ( you are not subscribed ) , this is my email [email protected] . Drop me an email and I shall answer.:thumb

The more i think about this. The more i think it is a pressurisation issue. if the oil level was high from the 600 mile service. This could cause the oil to fire out. but to shift the foam plug does sound like the crank case has become over-pressurised. I do ride quick but not thrashing the nuts off it! But even if i was it shouldn't have done it.

Or do BMW have a disclaimer not more than 3000 rpm:blast

Lets see what the dealer says next week!

I bet BMW will be able to 'read' the bike's ecu to see exactly how it has been ridden:eek:

So, nobody's raised this next question yet......can water enter the crankcase through this hole and or is this only possible after something has blown?

In a galaxy far, far, away! The continuing Saga.

The dealership have had the bike now since saturday. They are returning the bike to me tomorrow with the oil leak still present. As BMW can not supply the oil/water pump to fix the problem. :nenau

I wouldn't mind to much but the spares supply to these bikes is a joke.

I was supposed to go riding with a couple of friends this coming weekend for 3 days. if it blows up, it blows up i suppose, because lets face it! an oil leak is not going to get any better:blast
My wife won't ride the bike or even go on the back of it incase it brakes down on her or there is another problem.

Nice one BMW wish i had never bought the bloody thing:forry:forry

Every cloud has a silver lining.:D

Sorry you're having issues with the bike still. I'm surprised that the dealer is bringing your bike with a known leak. I would push them for a loan bike until yours is fixed.:rob

Sorry to hear you're a Beta tester and have been disappointed by your experiences

14 big ones is a lot to spend to get this aggro, however major or minor:blast

1 million miles of pre launch testing......................................

an oil leak is not going to get any better

You're right of course but by the same token, at least it shows the oil is still circulating... :thumb

When I had an issue with my bike way back when (1150), I wrote to BWM direct at customer sales/services to point out how much my leisure time and enjoyment had been curtailed by the fault that was keeping the bike off the road, I received a small compensation payment of around £300 for my trouble....may be worth putting finger to keyboard.....:thumb

Well it's back!

The dealer principal reckons he will eat my sock if it brakes down on my trip!:eek
So i will be wearing my lucky pair of socks all weekend:D

So is that with ketchup or brown sauce? :augie

Just to cheer you up - I had the belt cover off my 08 hexhead 1200 this weekend.
The timing cover corrosion I thought was due to stone chips goes up under the plastic belt cover about 1" above the cover joint face. For now its had the bubbled paint scraped off and a dose of ACF50, but long term it needs paint/powder coat/whatever.

Anyone with a new bike (who's not planning to sell in 12months time) should ACF-50 as much as possible especially in areas where it cant be seen.

I'm sure you will feel better if you spend 5 minutes on the Explorer forum and read about the cylinder heads being replaced under warranty, this might help ease your pain. Just look under camshaft bucket service bulletin, you can't miss it's now up to 205 pages!
