O.K so the wife won't let me have a brick built home built for the GS because she says it is a waste of even more money!!!I don't know what she means by that!!! I've said we can build it in cheshire brick and she can put nice pots outside it but she isn't budging!!!

Can anyone suggest an alternative.... Has anyone tried one of the steel bike sheds that are available and what do insurance companies think of them.

Any ideas???

My mate has one of the metal security sheds, I forget which one, but its quite impressive and he uses it all the time even though he`s got more outbuildings than you can wave a stick at.

williams bmw , Manchester have got one set up outside, go and give a try, then testride the 1200gs, then buy a streetwotsit suit and a carbon intergral lid, that'll show her what wasting money looks like:D :D :D :D

We wanted to replace the existing pre-fab garage at my Abergavenny house. This was a horrible reinforced concrete jobby with asbestos roof.

We liked the idea of a brick built one to match the house.

However, the availability of reliable tradespeople and cost made this a no-go option.

On a recommendation of a family friend we contacted the local agent forCompton The Banbury matched the house.

The local agent did the groundworks of removing the existing structure and preparing the base. The garage arrived on the back of a lorry and within a few hours the team of fitters had it erected.

There was a minor problem. The seal between the base and the sections was not adequate so it leaked. We contacted Compton and within 48 hours a snagger arrived. He was excellent. Replaced the entire base seal and did a thorough check of the rest of the structure.

In the past I would not have considered a pre-fab construction. They have come a long way in the last few years.

Garages put £5k on the value of your house and will probably cost around the £3k mark to build....whack it on the mortgage :D

Flying costcos flag again! they have a really big plastic shed with double doors on for just over £300 I think it's 4 metres wide by 3 metres deep. I thought it would be ideal for a bike when I saw it.

Steel shed

Inspected the purpose built bike shed at the NEC, i'm sure the sales bloke said they were rated as a Thatcham class 1 deterrent. Don't take my word for it but it was a very impressive bit of kit, multi-point locking, no external seam fasteners to attack, very well thought out.

Friend of mine had his bike in metal secure shed , top quality padlocks etc ----- they nicked the shed with the bike in it - had to put the phone down while i cried with laughter :D

parkin

Wots up with the living room, kitchen, hallway, bedroom, diningroom,

dont use the bathroom coz of condensation problems ?

:D :D :D

Garage costs

Had a Compton built to put my 'babies' in....Base cost £500 (mate did it for me) and garage will be reasonable price. If you check with them now you might just get a 'winter' discount.....

Cheers
Roger

PS It does not leak or suffer condensation probs either..

garages

Build yer own!!! I did it, it cost about £2500, built of con blocks, with a proper tiled roof, lots of storage space, needs rendering, but looks the nuts. Up and over door, second hand for £150, garage defender lock, soon to put in poer and full lighting. Excellent!!! I had never laid a brick in me life until I built it, and it was easy, honest. Have a think about it:P :P :P :P

Humm, …

I’m currently in the process of moving house, and I’m in the middle of the ‘where should I shove it’ dilemma.

I need a short term solution to keep the bike out of harms way until such time as I can get a proper garage built.

The two options that I’m considering at the moment are:

Firstly, a plastic shed from B & Q with the optional extension

Which rocks in at about 400 squids, which will keep my baby warm and dry, but is about a secure as a Tupperware box (it makes Rob’s suggestion look ‘kin expensive to me), but it’ll do as a shed after the garage is built.

Or secondly, one of these (see Fanum's post)

efforts that rolls in at 6 or 800 squids depending on which model you go for

Obviously, it’s more secure, but if the ‘bad lads‘ decide they ‘want off’ with my pride and joy, then I they’ll just take the shed as well, and Steptoe will have another chance to roll on the floor laughing.

So, any thoughts?

Will an 1150 GS fit in the Bikesafe 250, or do I need to go for the 300?

bikesafe

Hi Beesley,I had "garage problems" too, I bought a bikesafe last April, solid bit of kit, took 2 of us about 3 hours to assemble it though. It's not a 1 man job, the sections all bolt together and its really dolid when built. I bought the anchor bolts for it but I wouldn't bother as it takes 2 men to slide it into position on the concrete base, never mind nick it !
Definetly need the big one for a 1100/1150/1200, I changed my wheels last week while mine was in the shed ,so there is a bit of spare room in there to move around.
Hope this helps,
Dave
