Speed wobble

The thing is that until recently it was never a problem and I could regularly ride at that speed with no wobbles. I've just started to feel it over the last few months so something has changed. The tyres are in great shape (tourance) and the pressures are perfect but thats about the limit of my technical knowhow. The more I think about it the more I am convincing myself to buy a good pair of aftermarket shocks and have them set up properly.Im off to Spain in 6 weeks and I want it to be perfect..

Ok. But have you at least tried fiddling with your front and rear spring preload plus rear damping settings? New shocks or old, it's v useful to know about this stuff.

Im afraid Ive always thought of suspension tweaking as one of the Black arts but how hard can it be on a GS with just two shocks to play with? Is there a post that really explains it and how to do it yourself?

Thanks for all the advice so far but I think i may have talked myself into a pair of Nitron shocks.

Yes - its called the RTFM. Its nicely explained in there. Hell it even tells you how to put the settings back to stock.

Given the above, oh dear ! :blast

Its quite simple - couple of turns with the spanner that came with the bike to compress the front spring, which will drop the front. A few clicks on the rear to de-compress the spring to raise the rear a little. Have a play. Please !

If you find an independent bike bike set up / tuning shop, they will most likely offer a suspension set up service. (and normally its only £30 odd.)

They'll set up yer static sag and all that malarky and you'll be able to pick their brains about rebound, preload and all that guff. :thumb2

For not a lot of money, it's well worth it. :thumb2

happened to me on a trip to Ireland my brother who has the same bike, 08 gsa's both fully loaded same shock settings, tyres, at 100mph mine started to weave at 110mph it was unsafe but my brothers bike was as steady as a rock up to max, i dont think the back wheel helps because they are all out off true!

Thanks

I had an occurrence with my Transalp some years back - the bars started oscillating(?) and it was horrible to drive at certain speeds. I got to the point where I thought the frame must be cracked cos I couldn't find anything else wrong with it... eventually had to replace the tyres (Tourances) and fitted a set of Mitas E07 - problem disappeared, so it was the tyres and have been very wary of Tourances since. I believe there was a recent recall for certain sizes of Tourance (BMW GS rear...) where the tread started to break up? Worth checking out before you spend money on suspension...

ps Capt.Beefheart - a squid eating dough in a polyethylene bag is....???

That happens with a load of luggage on. Try some pre-load on the suspension.

+1:thumb

Also shift some of the weight forward if you can into the tank bag. if it happens again sit as far forward as poss and the weave will dissapear (given that everything else is OK inc. the tire pressures.

Fluff
