Hi,
I have a R1200gs 05, which will not start / nor turn over in gear with the clutch pulled in.
If the bike is stalled - it has to be returned to neutral before the starter will operate.
Recently I had a problem with the gear indicator sensor [ water ], fortunately 1st and neutral were the only ones showing and I could start the bike, but it made me aware that if neutral had not been visible, I would probably been left with a dead bike until the sensor dried out.
Is this common for them not to start in gear with the clutch pulled in - or thoughts on what I can do to correct this,
Thanks
Mac

Does it click when you pull the clutch, if not then a bit of adjustment of the clutch switch might help.

Otherwise if it does click, it might be the switch which is dead, and you'll need a new one.

I had the same a few weeks back, and it was driving me up the wall, been a happy camper since I got it fixed:D

My GS definitely starts in gear with the clutch in after a stall....although not immediately, normally have to hold the starter in for a second.

Wot he said. :thumb
There is a microswitch under the clutch lever, if you have damaged this (like I did :augie) then the canbus doesn't get the signal that the clutch has been pulled in and won't let you start the bike. As Casper says, if you squeeze the lever gently, you should hear a faint click from the switch.

I had the same problem on my 05. When the lever was adjusted to be closer to the bar I couldn't start the bike in gear. When the lever was adjusted to be further from the bar the bike could be started in gear.

After researching UKGSer (a few others have had the same problem) I loosened the *tiny* allen-headed grub screw that secures the clutch micro switch and adjusted until I could hear it click when the lever was operated. Sorted.

BIG THANKS!!
