Stelvio....first thoughts.

I indulged myself with a test ride on the Stelvio today and it was indeed a nice place to be. However, with my ownership of a V85 being less than 12 months old, I didn't feel the substantial financial penalty for upgrading would give me an equivalent upgraded ownership experience over my current bike. I can easily see if you had 2-3 years of V85 ownership under your belt, and the financial stars aligned that the Stelvio would prove an enticing option.

My main reason to comment on this thread is re the wobbly windscreen that seems to get widely mentioned. The Dealer I visited advised that this has been fed back to MG and only recently they have received notice of a factory modification/retification that is said to address the wobble. Existing owners therefore might like to query this with their own Dealers if they are finding this an issue.

Good to hear that they have some fix to make the windshield assembly less wobbly.

My dealer just called to say the panniers and tall seat have finally come in, unfortunately too late for this weekend's little ride as I just finished packing up the V85.
Regarding V100 pannier locks, which came with the bike, before I try to figure it out myself has anyone filed down or modded them so the locks do not capture the key? In other words holding it until locked?

Nice to hear, Martin.
Yes one of my few gripes is the wobbly windscreen assembly when raised and really only on bumpy roads. On rougher roads I leave it lowered all the way, in fact I like it there for most all my riding unless in rain or cold.

The motor is a gem and you'll like it even more as it loosens up. Wait until you really get on it over 5,500, and especially up around 8,000! And it's very smooth.

I put SW-Motech ION pegs on and really like them. I used the lower position which drops them about 5/8" lower than stock, in addition they are also larger and just a bit wider on the bike. I didn't feel the stock pegs were bad, maybe just a little too small, but these pegs made a big improvement. (I didn't bother with the rubber inserts.)

Now with over 1,000 miles and having backed off the damping F+R, the suspension works dramatically better over bumps than it did new.
Do you have a link for the footrests kit?

Re the pannier locks. I just replaced one of mine. The barrel is fitted into a metal sleeve which is threaded for a retaining nut, so the barrel is not accessible I can't see any way of removing the sleeve without butchering it. I therefore replaced both locks so I have one key for both panniers and one for the ignition. Annoying but minor in the great scheme of things. I bought a set of 6 locks with 2 keys so have a few spares!

Not a link but this one. FRS.17.011.10001/S ION footrest kit 04.16.2024 1set 151,00 151.00 KTM/Honda/Kawasaki/Morini/Guzzi/Suzuki/BMW.

Seahorse, curious why did you end up replacing your lock?

The original one was jammed so I couldn't get the key in fully. Maybe someone had tried to break in to it.

Oh. Mine came with 3 locks wrapped up under the seat, I need to get them out and study them. I'll never have a top trunk so I could experiment on one of the locks.

The locks under the seat are keyed alike to your ignition key. The Guzzi luggage doesn't come with locks, you use the three supplied ones.

So this is what you ordered:
No problems to mount on the bike?
Motech themselves tells me that they don't have any kit for the Stelvio 2024, only for Mandello..?

I just looked at the 3 supplied locks and interestingly the key removes from either fully turned position so I don't see how it can be captive when locked? If it is it must be done somehow in the pannier mechanism.

Yes Bjorn that's the pegs. If I recall they also fit a V85TT and when I compared the pegs on my Stelvio and V85TT they fit the same so I went ahead and ordered them and they fit perfectly.

My locks were supplied already fitted to the panniers by the dealer, and had been coded to the ignition key. But now I've had to replace one as described above. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/36460741...FILAXFwRru&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Above is link to the eBay listing, the photo will show the lock and will hopefully make sense of my gibberish!

When I get a moment I'll see if I can dismantle the damaged lock. The plastic bezel will probably pop off no problem but I suspect the threaded sleeve is either an interference fit or maybe crimped on. I will let you know what I find.

And if anyone wants to buy locks as per the listing above, I got a tenner discount for some reason when checking out so it was actually 40 quid for 6 locks and two keys, which is actually not bad.

I just returned from picking up the panniers from the dealer. I've not really looked at them closely but in the box were 6 locks which of course can't be matched to the bike. I also have the 3 which came keyed with the bike. Does each pannier require 3 locks? 2 for the lid latches and 1 for the latch that attaches the bag to the bike? If so I guess I can have one pannier keyed to the ignition, one to it's own key, and 3 extra locks?

In speaking with the owner there he said Guzzi seems a little disappointed with sales of the Stelvio so far, they were hoping it'd sell better and so did he. They have sold 4 so far including mine and have at least one still on the floor. I suggested he inform Guzzi that softening the clunk into 1st, redesigning the wobbly windshield assembly, softening the shock and fork damping, and finishing the paint with gloss, would be my suggestion to improve sales. But all in all it's a very nice motorcycle.
They have only one 2023 V85TT that I saw and he said they estimate July for 2024's.
He said BMW sales (including the new GS) are pretty soft but BMW is offering low interest finance which is helping. He mentioned that 60+% of their sales are financed which surprised me (I thought it'd be fewer on BMW).

I just received notice from Matris they now offer shock and fork upgrades.

I'm currently in that there Welsh Wales. I've been travelling with a roll bag on the back weighing around 25lbs. The rear suspension is much improved. No roll bag today ,so we'll see how different it feels.

The panniers have only one lock each. This locks the lid only, there is no lock on to the bike. Even if you also had the top box that would then be a total of three. It's odd that you have been given six, and that the set that I bought included six also.

On the subject of the wobbly screen, the same is true of the Mandello. My own bike is not too bad but I have a tall screen fitted and always leave it in lowest position. Just as well as the screen adjustment currently is not working!
The demo bike I rode was awful however, flapping around and making a horrendous racket, especially over bumps.
It's Italian though so these things are merely character rather than faults of course 😎

Don't the panniers lock on by the locking and removing of the rear seat? I was looking at a video earlier, suggested the rear seat has to come off of install or remove the panniers???

I suspect there is the panniers locking onto the bike ... then there is the pannier lids locking - subject is I think the latter ?

Yes the panniers are secured to the bike only by the pillion seat, there is no lock.

Thanks, good to know the locks included with the bike are all I need and securing the panniers on the bike with the seat make's sense. Hopefully they included decent instructions in the box, if it rains I'll have time to work on fitting them.

Wrinkleyowlie I'm curious where you have rear preload set and the approximate total load including your pack? Weight cantilevered on the rear rack will increase its 25# effect.
