Sticking exhaust butterfly valve

It should turn through about 90 degrees on switch-on (i.e. going from fully open to fully closed, then returning to fully open).

Mine was seized last week, so I spent half an hour working it open/closed with mole grips to free it off. Did about 500 miles on a trip to/around Devon at the weekend, and on returning home it was seized again. I'm going for one more replacement before the two year warranty expires (in a little over a fortnight) but if it seizes again I'll simply disconnect the cables.

Thanks for that. I thought there might be a problem with it. I tried to free it off a bit and did a very half hearted spray of lube which had no effect on it. I'll have a word with my local mechanic to see what the best option is.

i must be doing something wrong:nenau ive had 3 2010 on gsa's and never had a problem with any of them:D

Just fitted a new Zumo mount tonight and when finished I turned the ignition on and heard the usual buzzes an clicks plus a new squeak squeak sound from under the bike.

So 10 mins later the can is removed and I am working some oil in to the flapper valve in the exhaust it had just started to tighten up.

Its all free again now but its only a matter of time until it dries out and tightens up again so what is the best long term answer except removing it and putting a bit of pipe in.

Some dry graphite powder is likely to provide a long(er) term solution. But I think it only a matter of time (i.e. a few months) before it fails again. Only certain way to fix it is to remove or disable it.

I removed mine when fitting a full Akrapovic Twin Can system removed electrical plud and then the exhaust with the cables and box all together, no fault lights on dash etc an all OK

Its back on now as I replaced the full system with a std system and Akrapovic end can

On My VFR 1200 it had a simular flappy valve thingy which is dissed by removing the cables, it was left in the wide open position

Im just wondering if disconnecting the electrical connector would leave the flap open or closed on the BMW if it leaves it open thats the cheap solution, just insulate the connector job done if not there must be a way to keep the flap open as its mechanical there will be !!
