Struthof

Been there. Was a nice ride down there. Worth a visit.

Having live and ridden quite extensively in the Voges / Alsace, I surprised I didn't know about this place.
Next time.

Natzweiler concentration camp

It’s quite a disturbing place, they tested Zyclon B there in a small gas chamber down the road from the camp, did experiments on people too

To be honest I found it more horrific than Auswichtz or Dachau

They quarried stone in the camp which was used to build the giant grandstand in front of the Zeppelin field in Nuremberg amongst other things

There was a very good documentary on the place, I think on BBC or Sky. As leadfarmer said, truly horrendous, not least as the Nazi regime used it as a ‘laboratory’ to collect ‘specimens’ for their perverse investigation into eugenics. Need a fresh head for the university? Easy, we’ll send you one tomorrow.

Medical room doesn’t bear thinking what was carried out in there, also the killing room with the floor channeling to a drain. Think 107 were murdered (shot) in one night in there!! The rack for punishing prisoners (under the kosh). Harrowing place, gallows send a shiver down your spine.

This is not it, but it’s very broadly similar.

French, with subtitles.

also stumbled across the place whilst staying in Natzwiller village on an overnight stay on the way to the Black Forest. Very sobering.
