Substantial popping noise

Happy New year fellow gears,

I am after any advice about this issue that has suddenly occurred on my 1998 1100. She's been laid up since July for various reasons, I've been starting her periodically and put it on ultimate from time to time. she had a new battery about a year ago or so, always started fine etc. Now I went to start her yesterday, she's been off charge a month or so, turned over slowly then fired up. was running a couple of minutes then stopped dead. I tried starting but she was just flooding up then started with a bback fire, ran and cut out!!!. I turned the ignition on and it sounded like something was expanding almost to the point of explosion, creaking and groaning......very odd, anyway I've put her on charge on intimate as battery low'. Does anyone have any ideas what th this might be???? There's obviously some electrical issue which is odd as was put away with no problems.

fuel pump sticking on

The saga continues, I have started the bike with full battery. started fine, th then cuts out, fuel pump is now running continuously, it sounds like the fuel pump as it's like the eelectrical buzz you get when tturning the ignition on, but it's constantly buzzing, it's like it's priming itself constantly.

Any ideas, got to be something electrical somewhere, advice most appreciated.

Popping

Have you ever checked / changed the fuel filter?, could be the time to do it.

My fuel pump used to be noisiest when there was no fuel in the tank...

Thanks for the reply, I have three quarters of a tank of fuel, albeit its fuel from the summer. I will check the fuel filter........once ive located it. Tonight she fired up and ran for ten minutes, no popping or issues, just about got warmed up then she cut out and wouldnt re start........I think its obviously where its been laid up........maybe a good run could cure it.........

Its back on charge now, i'm gonna have a closer look when my days off arrive.....thanks again......

Fuel filter is inside tank with the pump, so you'll need to drain the tank to change it.
I know its probably 15 litres of fuel, but if its from last summer, then you'll be lucky if its 40 octane fuel instead of 85 octane.
If your bike was outside you may also have water in the fuel.

Have a good read thru' the "Font of all wisdom" theres good usefull stuff in there.

thanks for the advice, I agree the tank is gonna come off for further investigation and getting shot of the old fuel. The bike is kept indoors.......or garaged til the mrs moves out.......lol, I will update the post when I get to the bottom of it. Thanks again in advance.
