Surging = fuelling issue?

In the 115,000 miles of ownership, the only surging problems I had were:
Rode through deep water, after that, when in the higher rev range the bike didn't run well. Someone on here suggested unscrewing the airbox drain plug. Quite a bit of water came out, cured the problem.
Coilpacks , several times.
Once a small stone stopped one of the throttle bodies closing, Steptoe found that.

Here you go. In place of the cat code plug .. all my 1150’s run with it.

The BMW cat code plug/relay fitted is nothing magical, it’s just solid connector, open it up and have a laugh, BMW used to charge £11 if you wanted to buy one

I guess my frustration is that it didn't have the surging when I bought it (from a very reliable member of the forum) and after 2 visits to an ex-BMW mechanic, I am no further in getting it resolved. The issue spoiled what should have been a good trip around France and Belgium. I just spent my time swearing in my helmet. I might put it in with an 'expert' mechanic to do whatever needs to be done.

He’s an ex BMW Motorrad mechanic and service manager
He specialises in and loves 1150 GS’s

Louth and Lincolnshire Wolds are particularly delightful-bit like French backroads

Good RAF museums at RAF East Kirby ~ home of a working Lancaster and a very authentic WW2 airbase with a Naafi & fantastic interactive museum too

RAF Wickenby is also a great former RAF WW2 base with a brilliant cafe in officers mess and a great wee museum in the control tower and adjacent is a historic flying club where you can watch old planes taking off as you sip tea in the cafe

At Lincoln there is the Bomber Command memorial which is superb

Lincoln is worth a look too and the castle area is quirky and delightful in equal measures
Lincolnshire is a superb and oft overlooked county

The pic steptoe just posted is all you need .... stock plug removed, jumper between 5 and 6. just try it .....

Brilliant. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try Steptoe's complicated-looking giggle piece of wire first, and if it's still surging, I'll give Steve a shout and book a night or two away in lovely Lincoln

I found Steptoe's post using Google rather than the site search function as that approach sometimes works better.

The way I understand this, after reading the the entire thread from the earlier post, this jumper sends a signal to the chip that tells the chip to use another apparently preloaded, fuel map. So the stock map is leaner, to get thru emissions, the map which uses the 5 and 6 pins is richer and comes into play with changes to the exhaust and breather filter, usually. So it;s a small piece of wire but has a big effect.
