This has probably been done to death on this forum but can anyone help with some advice please?

Essentially my 1200GSA won't start!

Its an '06, bought last March (2nd hand but with 12 months BMW warranty from Wollaston)

It was fine yesterday, today all the ignition and warning lights light up as they should, it turns over really well so battery ok I presume, it just won't fire!!
(yes kill switch is on run and their is fuel in the tank)

Any advice before I ring Wollaston in the morning would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Si
Why not phone BMW Assistance now, instead of waiting until tomorrow. It works from home and it's likely your dealer will suggest this anyway. The cover is provided by BMW, not them (forgive me, I'm assuming it IS BMW Assistance you have). Assuming you're at home, you're not inconvenienced. If it's something simple, it may be fixed immediately by the technician; if not, they can facilitate transporting it to your local dealer.
You've paid for the service, so I suggest you use it.
Hope you get it sorted quickly.
Cheers,
Geoff

Thanks Geoff, just been reading the forums in a bit more detail and it has all the hallmark of the dreaded fuel pump controller failure! ( but still open to suggestions)

Good news is: It's a 10 minute job to replace and any BMW bike dealer should have them in stock.

This gets even better! I have just 'phoned BMW Assistance, explained I bought bike 3 months ago from Wollaston as an approved used bike with 12 months warranty. Bloke at BMW assistance confirmed that I should have assistance running alongside this ( I even remember filling out the tear out freepost thingy at the end of the assistance booklet and sending it off). Guess what? No record with them of me being covered!!:tears

Bearing in mind that I am an hour and a half from the dealer, do you think they will come out and fix it? I could probably do it mesen' but I'll be fecked if I should have to!:(

I would have thought the dealer has a responsibility:

a. To sort out your recovery service.

b. To get it repaired, even if it means coming to you or getting it transported to them.

cheers Chris, but in your experience would a dealer come out to fix it??

Hello, hello, anyone out there???!!!

I guess it depends on what warranty you bought and how old the bike is.

From memory:

BuMW standard OEM warranty (inc. recovery) lasts two years from first registration.

I think the balance of the unexpired two years is transferable to a third party, should the be sold within the two year period.

At the end of the 24 month period the basis is different. You have to by an annual parts (not all) and labour insurance, coupled to recovery.

You bought the bike second hand from a BuMW dealer, I think? And it came with a 12 month warranty. What that warranty covered or what it was for only you know. For all we know it was an off-the-shelf policy flogged by the dealer to cover God only knows what.

It sounds awfully like the FPC has gone. It can't be the EWS ring or you would have EWS lit up on the dashboard and zip all else. By now you could have asked Wollystones to have put a FPC in the post and fitted tomorrow in about 30 minutes, instead of sitting around asking if the bike should be recovered or being 'fecked' if you should have to do it.

Self help, often best and then rant :beerjug:

Hi Si
I had a similar experience with an 850R (used), bought from a main BM dealer with the BM Assistance. I had to call for assitance within the first week and found that the dealer hadn't got around to arranging the cover. Fortunately it was during working hours and BM Assist confirmed the purchase with the dealer and then came to help me.
Not much consolation for you just now but, tomorrow, I'm sure you'll get this sorted. Clearly, you need to phone the dealer and, personally, I would make the point that, had it not been for the mistake (as it surely is) you'd have had it sorted last night.
In my experience though ( yes, I AM a bit of an old fart by now) I tend to think that:
1. the mistake was just that; a mistake
2. you get far better service by staying clam and courteous
Forgive me if I sound patronising; I don't mean to.
I do hope you manage to get it sorted; I feel sure you will.
Keep smiling
Geoff

If a dealer does come out to fix it he will get paid for coming out and paid for the work done and incur your goodwill. I KNOW that my dealer would come out - in person if there were noone else available.

"sitting around" is it??

I don't know, you calmly ask to draw on the collective experience of some long term BMW riders and how the dealers generally behave in such circs and all you get is abuse!!:toungincheek:toungincheek:augie

Got it going yet?

Phoned Wollaston at 8.30 this morning, their van was on a delivery to Coventry. They got to my place at 11 am and picked it up. (1st result!) They agreed it sounded like a fuel pump controller (2nd result!)
They would try and fix it the morning and hopefully get it back to me by tomorrow(3rd result!)
When I asked why BMW assistance didn't have a record of me they said it was probably their fault and they would try to re-issue the warranty starting from now!! (4th result!!)

Service like that you just cannot fault!:clap:bow

Thanks for all the advice chaps:):clap

Are you going to withdraw and the insult and apologise for calling us of being (and I can hardly bear to type this:blast) BMW riders now?

We're not......(well, most of us aren't anyway :augie) we're GS riders ;)
