tell me about your 1190

I spoke to my KTM dealer today about the seat coolers and he had never heard of them, he also added that I was the only one that had mentioned the heat build up, I can only assume that they must have only sold 1 bike then.
I find that in temperatures above 20 degrees it is quite uncomfortable especially when sat in traffic, on the other hand when it is cold and raining I'm quite glad of it, pity it can't be switched on and off.
I wonder if it has been a problem on the 990 Super Duke, SMT or even the RC8, what is the difference between those models and the Adventure?

Did my first long run at the weekend. I have the heated ergo seat and it made no difference if it was on or off! Do those seat cooler thingys work? May gave to invest in a set if so - like you said, over 20 degrees and it's hot.

Must be They arn't actually that heavy, the box turned up and i thought it was empty..Does feel a bit more protection for you legs if you drop it, i miss the boxer engine for that reason

Unless your legs under the cylinder!!
Done on a 12GS whilst brake sliding at 35mph

Thats a great idea, But 'isn't all that heat that escapes from the sides at standstill now going to build up under the seat where all the electrics are'??

You are right, it can't be good, after a spirited ride I couldn't touch the shock piggy-back it was that hot!

Gorazd, who is Mr Wings has had them in development for many months, trialling them on his own bike over thousands of miles with no negative woes to the electrics. In fact, he supplies a thermal blanket within the box to be used between the frame and seat. I have the foil on the bottom of my seat, so didn't actually bother with the blanket. Maybe it isn't noticeable in the photos, but there is a air scoop to draw fresh air in the front to deliver an airflow through the coolers.

They certainly look the part and look like they are an integral part of the bike.
How effective will the vents be when you are sat on the bike, will your legs/clothing obscure them?
My personal experience is that the heat builds up when stationary or when moving slowly in traffic, will the panels hold more heat in as it rises?
If they work then I will probably buy some as it is the only real issue I have with the bike.

It's not like they totally enclose the area around the shock etc, there is still plenty of space for heat to escape. Main reason I decided to buy them was with recent warm weather (20c+), and with a trip soon through many parts of Southern France, Italy etc, I thought that with hopefully 30c+ heat that they would make things a tad less uncomfortable.

IF and it's a huge IF I ever get an 1190R, I think I would stick with canvas panniers,as I think hard panniers look wrong on the bike.

I would get the same panniers as on my 950SE,namely Andy Strapz.He even does a 'kit' especially for the 1190R to use if you keep the standard exhaust.

If you fit a Wings exhaust and don't need the shallower RHS pannier then just go with the Expeditions L and R,as I have on my SE.

The whole setup including frames is only £400.

OK,not as secure as locking hard luggage but looks so much better and MUCH cheaper !!!! And they are very well made and cope with all weather.

Where did you get the £400 figure from?

I prefer the soft luggage option on these types of bike and was on the look- out for some frames to use with my old bags.
Followed your link and thought when I saw the pics of the frames, nice and neat and just what I had been looking for.
But then I scrolled down to the price list and it appears that the frames alone are £370

Will ring them later but wanted to ask you first in case you have info on prices not generally shown on open website.

Yes- it's called Easy Jet.
Pick her up at (insert Rome/Prague/Nice etc) and enjoy shorter days rides round the nicer parts of your chosen destination.
Avoids the motorway slogs for her and gives you a couple of days of self time on way there and back.
Everyone's a winner

Fit a top box, if she has something to lean against it makes them feel alot safer on the bike.. my missus hates it without

i've settled on a luggage strategy too. i was just on the point of ordering holan panniers & top box, but have now getting a set of the KTM plastic boxes from a forum member. arguably not as good as the holans, but i don't use them much, they don't leave scaffolding all over the bike the rest of the time + they are cheaper
going to get the KTM ally top box for general use. it's a good size and the best looking. it's also much cheaper buying from KTM than touratech direct. i'm guessing KTM base their price on the european TT price

still waiting for my orange crash bars to arrive at the dealer, and i'm thinking of getting the ally skidplate. don't really need it, but the OEM bit of yoghurt carton that's there now is a bit crap to say the least.

Cookie, have you fitted the KTM boxes with the Wings shorty yet? I'm thinking also I don't want the frames on the bike when I'm not using the panniers and I can get good deal on the KTM boxes at my local dealer.
