tell me about your 1190

What didn't you like about the Explorer, there is a 2 month old one in the dublin ktm dealers for 14000 it's the xc with luggage.

Thanks guys the dealer phoned this afternoon and sweetened the deal a bit so it's done the KTM is being delivered Thursday I just hope it is as good as people say
There was nothing wrong with the triumph at all I loved it but just really wanted the KTM
I'd buy another one without doubt

Ps if anyone is selling anything for a 1190 I'm buying pm me cash waiting for anything interesting or useful
Rob

Horn.

No not the trouser excitement when riding my 1190 r.

Any one fitted a louder horn, the ktm standard one is very poor.

i read that fitting a different horn is a tricky business.

fit a bigger horn and the can bus detects more draw and shuts it down. relay it, and the can bus detects too little draw and shuts it down.

the OEM horn is a joke, so best off learning to not need with the horn IMO :)

Yeah i found that tried fitting a nautilus with and without a relay.

Only other option would be to by pass the canbus and hard wire it.

The Triumph was overall a very nice bike good finish, engine, gearbox, etc but for me the Suspension was really bad I adjusted it every way I could even tried Hyperpro Spring a little better but not worth the trouble or money.

So changed to the KTM 1190 Adventurer and I must say that after 6 months and 6,500 miles I really do like this bike does every thing from slow to super fast with superb handling and suspension that works!:D

Yes, I have fitted a Stebel Nautilus. It has to be connected up via a relay. This is not a problem & I used the original horn wiring as a trigger etc to the relay - that way if anything goes wrong with the Stebel I can re-connect the wires to the pathetic OE horn.

The biggest problem is finding somewhere to install the Stebel. Some people split the compressor & trumpet - still not easy to find a location IMO. I resorted to mounting the whole unit on the crash bars (I also did this on my Triumph Explorer- there seems to be quite a few of us who have migrated from the Explorer to the KTM). Some would find the appearance of this a deal breaker - I can't say I like it too much, but I am prepared to put up with it in order to have a horn that can actually be heard.

Hi Stroller so you are saying with a relay on the bigger hooter it works ok
On my Explorer with a relay it melted the Hooter button (Replaced under warranty) without it it would only work once until the Ignition was turned off then on again it was a real pain in the but, in the end I put the stock one back on and shouted at people lol

Yes, it works fine with the relay. I drew the power supply direct from the battery via the relay.
Bit concerning what you said about melting the Explorer horn button - I didn't have any issues with mine, and so far no such issues on the KTM.

I improved the horn on my 1190 by taking it off the plastic bracket it fits on and fixing it too a metal bracket on the fork yolk I kept it in the same location and kept the plastic deflector in place it was a lot better for not a lot of effort.....Its like a loud speaker holding in mid air the sound is useless but put it on something firm and the sound is a lot better...space is a major problem............ it is the same horn as the 950

The relay connections I used are as follows;
87; to Compressor
85; to OE horn +ve wire
30; to Battery positive (with an inline fuse).
86; to earth (I used the OE horn -ve wire)

Hope this helps.

That's exactly how I did it !! Something must have gone wonky lol
Thanks for that though I'll give it another go when I find some ware to locate it on the ktm

Mine's run in at last and I've just got home from picking it up from it's first service - I'm looking forward to a free weekend coming up :)

It now has the proper crash bars, looks so much better with them. I've also had fitted the issolastic bar clamps/risers and I'm well pleased with them. I've been finding the bars a bit of a reach, even at 6ft tall. The bar position is now perfect, set at their highest and mounted as far back as they go and it's made a real positive difference to the 'feel' of the bike. Also, whilst vibes have never been an issue they definitely isolate your hands better.

Like I said, I'm well pleased and defo reccomended if anybody else feels the bars are a bit too much of a reach.

"Isolastic"....... A throwback to the Norton 850 I believe (and may even be a trademark?). Strange the things we remember..........

Al :D

They look great , the pair I bought had the keyway machined the other way.
Had them on another bike and they worked well
