has anyone who has an R ever felt the need to buy a set of road sized wheels?

You've got some good mates there then cos I used to pay considerably more for a 6000 mile service on my GS :-O

It's because the valve clearances on the LC are only done every 12k not every 6k as on previous models therefore saving a chunk of labour and some very expensive gaskets
Ordered a new shift lever today ..

I find the position of mine is just (and we're talking a few mm at the most!) either too high, or too low on it's spline. I've gone +10mm (size 11 feet) and hopefully I can get the shift tip, spot on in the right position.
(It's so minor that I've lived with it with no real complaints, it's just one of those little niggles that you want to sort out and at last hammerhead have added the 1190 to their collection of shift levers .... )

You can get a shorter one as well but yes it isn't a guaranteed fix. Nice bit of bling tho.i'm struggling to see how that lever will fix the "in between spline" problem. it's longer, so the end will be even higher or even lower than stock depending on the which spline it's on, won't it?
edit: i suppose the tip to spline alignment may well be different.
