We’re off for a couple of weeks into Spain and back via Santander. It’s nice to have a theme so if anyone has a good resource of the Templar castles of Spain and Portugal I’d appreciate it.

I stayed in Ponferrada for a few days which is a good base as it is surrounded by good roads, including some on the way to NE Portugal. It has a Templar castle which is worth a visit. It was free to visit on a Wednesday afternoon but is not expensive to enter. The El Castillo hotel is across the road. There's also a Templar themed hotel in the newer part of the city. I used Ponferrada Plaza which was okay but I would recommend staying nearer the castle in the older part of the city.

thanks Yarkto, very helpful, if you could let me know if there’s and update I’d appreciate it.

We’re travelling 1st 2 weeks October

Also Wessie, thanks for that info.

I’ll get that book too, Wapping, thanks

Loads of them just North of Malaga. Teba Castle and Sir James Douglas from Lanarkshire is a good story.

Quite the Journey in 1330 I'd imagine (y)

There is a castle in Mogadouro which I believe is Templar related and it is well off the normal biker routes unless heading for a particular road as I do

Miravet is worth visiting. Just so you can get the little ferry across the river.
Did that a couple of years ago and was pretty cool. Only cost 1e.

There's the remains of a Templar fort just up the road from me, the village is called Temple Bruer after said people.
The building I used to work in was built on the site of a Templar graveyard, going into the basement alone when one was working nights was not a pleasant experience.
Sadly neither are in Spain though.
Have a great trip and stay safe.

@Berin expect the poi templar crosses to change to blue pins in your satnav
I’ve just imported them to Basecamp to view and maybe select the ones we’ll visit as a sub set, and changed the icons to churches.

I’ll see about bringing the subset into MRA but I’m sure the icons won’t translate across!

  1. New file below- as with any data- do your homework before going! you can add places/delete to your hearts' content!
  2. Icon- I've no interest in mra so I cannot help you there- maybe Richard can tell you.
  3. The cross icon is one I made for use in Garmin units & BC

Nice icon.
I’ll upload the new file to MRA, see
If it moves over but no hardship
If not.

Thanks again

This is the icon.
It must be placed in the Custom icon symbols folder in both BC and the Garmin
This site does not allow for a .bmp file to be uploaded so you'll need to open the file and save it as a 16 colour bitmap
Its size needs be 24x24 pixels
Bit depth = 24
Horizontal and vertical dpi needs be 240 else Garmins may have a wobbler...**
(AFAIK lowest can be 22x22)
** it can still go wrong if you use BC to transfer file to/from unit.
Another way is to save the .gpx file AND the bitmap file with the same name as the .gpx file and use POI loader to send it to the unit

*** be aware that using POI loader WILL delete previous ones in your garmin satnav... don't say I didn't give a heads up!
