I’ve got the mt 21 on my 690.
Shouldn’t think they will last much over 1500/2k miles rear,
Certainly cannot complain about the grip off road,on the road it’s stable up to about 85/90 ,gets a bit loose after that.
Not had any scares when pushing on ,on the road.
If I were wanting a more road biased tyre I’d probably fit the str rally(if available in this size)
I fitted them on the 950 and they were brill on the road.

Rear Lights and Noisey Exhausts

I noticed, not long after my first service, that my back light 'lens' was going cloudy so ordered a new one which only arrived today due to being on back order. It turns out the rear lens had cracked all the way around (vibration?) and was rubbing against the clear plastic cover that protects the LEDs on the PCB........quite an unusual failure I would hope

I also took the opportunity to fit the extra silencing kit that wings now do. In my sensible, old age, I just can't take that standard can out on the trails......It consists of a more restrictive baffle and a perforated cone you fit to the mouth of the can. It's done the trick, it still sounds fruity and still snarls but much more quietly. However, Wings figures quote only 1dB louder than stock, mmmmmm I'm not sure how they got to that but hey ho it's quiet enough now

Hi, I've been thinking about a 701SM for a while now, do the dealers off-load at the end of the year like KTM seem to?? Both bikes are holding their values well, so a new one is about 1K more than a used from what I've found. Although GH motorcycles have two with very low mileage at the min. (no, both sold in a few days)

Supply appears limited, I had to shop around for a dealer with stock (and wait) when I bought mine earlier in the year so I suspect they don't apply the same deals as they do to the high volume lines although I do remember seeing a few dealers moving old MY stock last year at around £1k off but that literally was one bike left at the dealers so you had to be quick.

Another probably stupid question (not found when searching so far) when did the frame colours change, went and looked at a couple of Supermotos (one sold overnight, before I even got there) and one had white and another had a black frame, also a dealer mentioned that some Enduros had blue frames?

Enduro and SM both had white frames to 2019, Then SM got black and Enduro went blue.

I think the SM has always had black forks, while Enduros are silvery colour.

That adjuster looks a bit better than the ones that need a hex key to adjust, I’ve not seen one of those before - interested to see where you site the adjuster.

What’s with the spring, correct for weight or height?

Edit: Just read up on it and seen you need the slightly shorter spring with the adjuster

Nothing scientific, but the stock spring is on the soft side, so I just ordered the lightest of the Rally Raid options.

Rally Raid had the spring but not the packing piece needed for their short springs, so they offered me a very decent discount on the hydraulic adjuster

Brilliant - I may need to get in there before they are back in stock

Joking aside, I’m actually very happy with my rear shock, sag is cock on, it seems very compliant and it’s not tooooooo hard to adjust with a screwdriver and lump hammer on the very odd occasion I may need to.

The front end however, whilst not bad, could do with being a bit more supple and I intend spending some more time with the adjustments before doing anything more drastic.

The sag seemed just about OK when the bike was new, even though it is apparently designed for a much lighter rider than myself. It has got a bit softer over time and although I've not measured it again, I think I'm just going with the general view that an increase should be needed. It can get a bit unruly at speed over bumps, but otherwise rides OK. I wouldn't want to strap much luggage on though.

The bike is due for a valve service in the near future, and while it's all apart for that, I thought I'd grease the swing arm and linkages, so a good time to experiment with the shock. If I don't like it, I reckon I'll get my money back on the spring and adjuster.

No idea - mine came in a box from the seller already pulled by the original dealer!
Expect the RG tower and fairing added that and more back although it no longer has the factory airbox and filter so possibly equal

My usual source for stuff like that is Wemoto. They don't list levers for the 701 but do for the Orange bike (up to 2018). Before I take a punt on those is anybody able to confirm they fit please, or a source of reasonably price 'spare' levers, ta

Seen loads of tales of cheap Chinese levers causing issues when I was looking into it. ASV seem to be good, but $$$$$

Genuine levers are over £50 a side and I don't carry spares. I put hand guards on and they seem to do the job at half the money.

Yeah, I'm not interested in the cheapo Chinese shite, I was just hoping that there would be good quality pattern stuff like Wemoto sell for just about every other bike......... ah well, çe la vie. I've got some hand guards to fit along with some heated grips and was waiting to to do both at the same time, best get my arse into gear

Since riding the Husky with lovely slim grips, I've really come to dislike the great fat heated things on the KTM and have even considered taking them off. Really odd, as I've not had a problem with them before.

Both the 690 and 701 have the slim heated grips.
As an FYI KTM discontinued the slim ones in January for the 690 and the same with the 701. The “new” ones are basically the Oxford Adventure grips.
Dealer tip - get the SX ones. Exactly the same as the “previous “ ones.
