The 701 Info Thread.

Sorry if this has been covered before but has anyone done this with theirs and, do you need to remap after?

As I'm about to have the valves checked I thought it would make sense to do the mod and save all the faffing around in the future.

Not done it but something I am tempted to do - everyone needs some extra beer storage space ;)

Suspect that it will be marginal in terms of needing a remap. Wings say it is OK to fit their end can with baffle in as long as the air box has not been modified. Rade Garage say their airbox deletion provides a small performance gain and so the combination of the 2 is likely to result in the bike running too lean :nenau

That's just the sort of thing I'm after, been looking for the Husky 'H' for a while now, where did you get them from please? Quite like the graphics as they are, but as you say sidepanel is huge, and needs a bit of colour.

I got them from here. They were not listed on the website, so I emailed and told the guy what I wanted and he sorted it out in a few days. I think they were about 30 quid for the pair on heavy duty decals.

Yes I've done it and I also had a remap (with dynojet at PDQ) just to get the most out of it, and also as it was running a tad hot.
Let me know if you want any more details.

Toddmeister, you have pm.

And replied Simon.

Here’s the printout from the last couple of Dyno runs as the tech at PDQ was making final adjustments. Note that they are for the two switchable map options on my 690. As I mentioned in the PM, I didn’t expect massive performance gains, it was more for peace of mind as I’d noticed it was running quite hot, after the RADE filter and auxiliary tank were fitted to complement the Wings.
I also now have a throttle response which is much crisper and smoother. Whilst out on Salisbury Plain with Andres (formerly of this Parish and on a 701), we swapped bikes and he was gobsmacked as to how much better mine felt on the throttle compared to his!

Hope that helps
Toddy

You got to love a bodger!

I was already aware that there was something wrong with the front headlight as it was lighting up the top of sign posts etc.

Finally got around to sorting it - spot what was wrong:

Head light attached at top but swinging loose at the bottom :blast

Looks like previous owner had done some major surgery to install an LED headlight at some point and then bodged it when putting it back to standard.

Replacement part which was only £20 ordered and now fitted:

I can now adjust the tilt of the headlight and actually light up the road in front of me :thumb

Ergo Seat

To be honest not found the standard seat that bad and IMO cost of Renzo and Seat Concepts are just plain daft so decided to give the Husky Ergo seat a go at £180 less a healthy discount ;)

Only tried it in the garage so far but it is noticeable wider than the standard seat with a flatter profile which should help.

If it does not work may look to get the standard seat rebuilt locally.

Hopefully that's me done for now :augie

You pays yer money etc.
For me, the Renazco seats are the best available.
I had one on my 950SE for nearly a decade and it was all day comfortable so I got one for my 701LR.
James Renazco did an even better job and the seat was fabulous. So good that I rode nearly 700 miles in a day from Asturias to my house in Brittany with barely an ache.
If you’re just going to use a 701 for short rides then the cheaper seats will be fine but for longer journeys , the extra cost of the Renazco seat is worth every penny.

Renazco do look good :beerjug:

For me though the 701 is mainly for back lanes and green lanes and unlikely to do more than 200 miles in a day. Have the 1290 for touring/big distances and so standard/Ergo seat should be fine for me :)

Look forward to your feedback on the Ergo seat Paul, perhaps I can swing a leg over the bike at a brekkie meet to feel the joy for myself. I have acquired a seat from the supermoto to have modified at some point, but got until the spring as the bike is now in winter storage.

No problem - any time :thumb

Paul, that's a cracking looking seat you've got there! Hope it does the job for you. :thumb

So far only done an 80 and a 50 mile run using the Ergo seat but without a doubt (for me) it is more comfortable than the standard seat.

Extra width is noticeable, and seat is nicely supportive on the firm side (which I prefer).

Whist the same Ht as the standard seat the extra width makes it feel slightly higher when putting a foot down unless you move forward to the front of it.

Time will tell but think I will be happy with this seat for what I will be using the bike for ;)

Rade garage air filter mod

Well, I bit the bullet and went for the air filter and storage box mod. I bought it from 'Wrenchride' in Bolton which seems to be the only place I could find in the UK who sold it. Great service from Olly the owner!

Going to give it a run around today to see if there is any difference in performance.

Looks good - let us know how you get on with that set up :thumb

Looks great, would be interested to know if the removal of that massive airbox makes a difference to how the engine runs.

I'd also be interested if water ingress is the same or more risk with this mod (for example if the bike has a lay down in a deep puddle).

Almost certainly going to be an increased risk of water ingress compared to standard set up:
