the best bike i've ever ridden

Some of the language on this site is at gutter level and I now think I know how it happens.....the rules for this site say 'may include adult content for which it cannot be held responsible', and 'it's about being a grown up hooligan'. This explains a lot, there are no rules and also why the site doesn't appear to have a moderator in the normally accepted function.

I guess we just have to put up with it and try to skip thru' the rubbish to find the useful stuff.

Got it in one

It's a Forum for grown ups, not a heavily moderately 'Sunday School' type Bike forum

Anything goes, the truth is spoken and people are rightly outed if they're being a prick or spouting bollox or selling tat

No rules, you take the rough with the smooth and that's why it is soooo popular

Some of us have been riding GS's for 20 years, so .....................yep we've got an opinion

Like or lump it, the choice is yours........................:D

BUT the new breed recent converts to the new WC 12GS are such a fucking sensitive bunch, IMHO

In real life, at UKGSER events we all get along fine and most of us have known each other for up to 10 years or longer

Please furnish us with your version of "normally accepted function". This forum is lightly modded as freedom of thoughts and views are paramount. It's not a BMW owners club where we all bow down to the great god of BMW and ignore the issues but are mostly BMW owners who have opinions good and bad. It's possibly the best and most varied forum for any type of bike out there and that what's makes it a great place to be.

Sure, people have opinions which may not be yours but FFS, toughen up and enjoy the ride as it's a great forum.

I don't think he's bashing bm. The facts are correct:nenau

I love my bike, but it has some known issues as do they all no matter which manufacturer. If you want to bury you head in the sand go ahead, just make sure you have the extended warrantee:D

No big issues with the toilet yet, who knows, this might be the most reliable one yet, lets hope so:thumb2

But bm do have a habbit of knocking out good bikes with an inherrant issue built in through a small design flaw.

i spose youve seen the thread on adv rider about the 300 mile old lc with the broken clutch gears?

Maybe if they'd lived through the time a few years back when every other post [exaggeration] was someone shouting about being stranded somewhere with either EWS or fuel pump relay failures they would appreciate how loyal the older members of this forum have been to BMW machinery.

Update...
Spoke to the dealer.
I'm gettimg a whole new engine!
Supposedly it was one of those gears attached to the starter on the engine side.
This would require complete disassembly of the motor to fix.
Seeing as dealers havent been trained yet BMW advised to replace the entire engine.

They received the replacement motor already but there is some special tool needed. Again there are no tools available so the tool is coming from the factory.

yep thats the one, interesting read, esp when the op gets pms telling him he should be pushing bm for a new bike not a repair and then throws a strop.

That's certainly what I do although I suspect our idea of what's rubbish may differ ;)

Totally agree. That the vast majority of the LC bashers haven't even ridden the LC for 3 minutes is already vain enough, but the vulgarity and foul language used by some makes the reading of their «opinions» testing and does nothing to prove the strength ot their arguments. Quite the contrary.

How about bashing the LC without the profanity from now on? Now, that would be refreshing. Not necessary novel, but at least more fun to read.

As for the «toilet» thing, it's beginning to get a bit hackneyed for a «joke» that wasn't even funny the first time. From the second time on, it just got worn-out.

Firstly, where do you get all this "LC bashing"? Just because people may not have fallen in love with the new "WC" isn't grounds for castigating them for "bashing"

I think the worst I've seen in this thread is a few people having ridden the "Toilet" ["Water Cooled" = "WC" = "Toilet" + "get a sense of humour"] and preferred their current GS/GSA rides.

I'm recommending that the mods ensure that any post containing offensive should be labelled in the title.

We have NSW for posts with dodgy images so I propose we use NIVEA to distinguish posts that may offend the new boys with sensitive skins.

Can you confirm the rumour that you keep your gloves on when you go for a pee?

I've read that thread. I would not be happy with a bike that I'd paid all that money for that shows a history of an engine swap required in the first 200 miles. It might impact resale value down the line and given it's hardly out of the bubble wrap, I'd want a swap out for a new bike. Premium pricing requires premium support.

I bought a 1999 R1100GS in 2010, which had 43k on it and once cleaned up was in really good nick

Mechanically it was spot on:thumb

Looking back at the history, based on the Vin number on the BMW system it had had a brand new short engine @ 30 days and 500 miles old.
Fault was a porous crankcase casting, so it had a motor swap way back in 1999

No warranty work after that and it was 100%

I doubt it ever reduced it's resale price, via the previous 4 keepers ownership whatsoever, in reality.......how many owners would check

It wouldn't bother me too much but the principle of paying out for a new bike and 200 miles later it is back in for a major piece of work...I'd be wanting a replacement to be honest. While it will be fine, the fact is I'd expect a lot of TLC if I decided to keep the bike if it was me.

If that other thread OP keeps the bike, I'd expect a decent pile of freebies for his trouble, it's an unusual situation and he must be pretty hacked off.

In an instance like this, the manufacturer's commitment is to replace the broken bits and that is all you can insist on. Something broke, shit happens. If they decide they want to replace the bike, that is down to them. Having a new motor won't affect any resale value down the line.

I think my post pointed it wasn't an unusual situation, it happens from time to time

The original first owner of the bike I had, didn't seem too bothered and kept the bike for a further 2 years

Last year there was a small problem on S1000RR's engine and because they were ex factory, the dealers had to replace the engines on delivery, I'm sure the bikes have been fine with their new engines

It wouldn't bother me unduly
