Throttle problem or CC switch?

Firstly, unlike my previous RT, on my WC there is NO mechanical link to the throttle bodies from the grip hence when CC is activated the throttle actual returns to the idle position even if you are still holding it open, IYKWIM.

You can disconnect by applying a little extra closing force to the throttle grip in the idle position. It is a miniscule amount.

I don't know if mine is working properly because it can be a bit disconcerting when bombing along at say 80 on CC and just touching the front brake and suddenly the throttle goes to idle, where the grip is positioned and the bike suddenly slows rapidly. Enough for SWIMBO. To bang into me.

When I disconnect CC I have to reset the grip in the approx position representing 80 and then touch the brake to disconnect.

Anyone wiser on this issue?

You state it as it is, sounds like our Canadian Cousin is talking out of his Mountie Hat! :blagblah

Now that the silliness has subsided.
I took my GS in for a small mechanical job and asked if they would also configure the clock and date to 'normal' format. Upon collection, the dealer reported that the bike took some time on the diagnostic because there were software downloads to be had. After a bit of faffing about the time was set and off I went.
For some reason I did not use cruise on the way home but next day did. Well, tried to! No cruise and exactly as the OP described. Hold throttle engage cruise, let go of throttle - cruise drops out.
The dealer was most concerned when I reported the issue and wanted the bike back to investigate. I suggested that it may be better for him to contact BMW tech service to ask a pertinent question. "Is there a bug in the latest software?" Or more specifically, why, on different machines in similar circumstances, did cruise work pre update and not work post update?
Apropos the update; what has changed? It is still unstable at or about idle which is really the only issue that I could have mentioned. Perhaps the throttle progression in ROAD is a little softer? I don't know.
I want my cruise back because I am going touring in a couple of weeks time.

Perhaps BMW don't want guys riding with both hands off the bars pretending to shoot down other riders with pretend rifles??? :augie:augie

Sjwb...Ive been wondering if the date could be set to normal uk style, have you managed to get yours sorted then ?
Also re the software updates did they tell you what they were for etc ?

Well, that was the irony. All I wanted was the time and date formats changed; which they managed. But of course I lost Cruise in the process.
Despite dealers saying that they cannot change the formats - they can.
As for the identitiy of the updates, they were erm vague in their response. My take on that was they actually didn't know.

So I'll wait for the dealer to receive and eliminate the left bar CC switch cluster and hope they can reload the software if CC still doesn't operate correctly. I too are going touring in 2 weeks time maybe they can loan me a bike if its not fixed.

I spoke to the dealer yesterday and BMW has advised that he bring the bike back in, check for correct software update and validate the crusie control configuration. If this doesn't fix the 'missing cruise' issue, then BMW has requested access to the diagnostic / software.
So, my take on that is that it is not and never was, a hardware issue. Anyway, booked in for next Wednesday..
I am now convinced that the ROAD mode throttle response has been re-mapped.

Who is the dealer please? mine is CW.

My bike had its 1st service on Tuesday and I was told there were no software updates, bike collected at end of July! Tried my cruise control on the way home, luckily it still works.

Hope you get your bikes sorted

My bike was the first out of Clarkes in March. I am sure that a July build would be more up to date than mine. You would be surprised how software matures!
Currently, Woolaston is (sic) investigating my issues.

My bike went in yesterday to get the CC sorted. It was in the workshop for about 90 mins, unfortunately I didn't observe the successful correction process. I believe the left handlebar switch cluster was replaced, ECU software was checked and the throttle calibrated (which of these was the cause who knows). All is now working as it should, thanks to CW for correcting things.

My cruise control way very hit and miss and I was getting spurious faults with the ESA i.e. adjusting the spring rate with out me pushing its buttons. And I also had two !ESA fault showing on the clock display.
The dealer replaced the left hand switch gear and all now seems fine.

Cruise control is now another thing that all bike should have with out it, it would be like buying an old air cooled GS.

Once you have had water there's no going back to air. And that's with the absolutely shit gear change.
