Hi All,

When heading out on a run the other day, I had only gone half a mile when, after changing up a gear, the throttle went dead! No response at all. I changed down a gear, to third I think, and the throttle worked as normal. The remainder of the 150 mile run was fine. Its the first time that has happened, my bike is a 2017 GS.

Any thoughts, should I be worried?

Cheers.

Pete

No. It'll just make you unhappy. :D

Do something proactive instead. Get it scanned by someone with a GS 911. Whereaboots in the Kingdom are you?

Hi Schtum,

I'm in Glenrothes.
Excuse my ignorance, what is a GS911?

The bike is under warranty, as I bought it a few months ago from Clark's in Dundee.

Cheers,

Pete

In that case, I'd have a wee run up to Dundee to get Clark's to scan it for any fault codes.

I do have a friend in Freuchie with a GS 911 who would probably scan the bike for you but I think Clark's should be your first port of call.

I'll get it up there if the weather ever encourages me to get the bike out of the garage!

Thanks for the advice.

Mr Finlay I had the same on my 2017 GSA this year. No throttle, then it returned. A few days later same problem, this time it stayed. I limped home through south London on idle. Battersea replaced the throttle sensor thingummy (this was a week after I took out the BMW insurance package, so I was lucky). So I advise a wee trip to your service people as I suspect it will happen again.

Sorry for the slow response, been on holiday!
Daylyons, I was in no great hurry, especially the way the weather has been, but in light of your experience, I'll get it checked out ASAP.

Cheers,
Pete

Same thing happened to me twice, and I got the dreaded ride to a workshop with no throttle, eventually changed the throttle body which was cutting out when the bike reached a certain temperature

Hi Guys,

Finally got the GS to the dealer, Clarks in Dundee. No fault codes found regarding the throttle!
They did a reset on the Pro shift, it sounds like there was a mixed message as to what the problem was, not that I notice any difference on the gear change.
They also replaced my front wheel pressure sensor that was giving me a bit of trouble and replaced the satnav battery FOC, even though it was well out of warranty. nice one!
Good service all round from them, but I'm slightly concerned that the dead throttle will come back to bite me.
Their explanation of this was "a one off glitch and that it would have to happen a few times before a fault is registered".

Time will tell.

cheers, Pete
